This was Mum's jewellery box. She really wasn't a jewellery person but the box was always in her bedroom. I remember being about 5 or 6, going to Inverness by train with Mum and my sister, having lunch in a restaurant and going to visit my aunt in her office. Mum went to the toilet at one point and my aunt took me to a large cupboard and showed me what she had got Mum as a Christmas present....but sh!!!! It's a secret!!!
Curiously Mum couldn't remember in recent months who she had got it from, and her sister had no recollection of the episode either when my younger sister told her that story! Sister Chris doesn't recall anything about it either.
But it's clear in my head, and travelling by train to Inverness I passed that office every time and remembered that little episode! I hope to find someone who can mend it so that it plays Cradle Song again.
Three good things
1. Stories....the books that could be written!
2. Special tunes, Cradle Song is one for sure!!
3. Hope to travel to the north coast and visit my aunt before too long....might just take the box with me.
The box might just jog her memory, I hope so, you don’t want to be the only one to remember! A treasured keepsake! I expect mum kept other precious things in there too.
Oh, what wonderful memories. It's funny how you can remember something that others don't remember. The mind is an intriguing thing. I hope you can get it fixed ... you should enter it to 'Repair Shop'!!!
