A very special day by sarah19

A very special day

Church was rather special today. Unknown to him (he doesn't like fuss and to avoid any stress) the congregation had arranged a presentation for Dad at the end of the service, to acknowledge his dedication and service as an elder since 1966.
He was given a very special Memory Book with lovely photos and comments from lots of people (more to come!), a lovely certificate and a large print Bible which he will certainly enjoy.
It was lovely to be there for the weekend and he and Mum coped very well with the event. They don't like being the centre of attention but appreciated that the occasion was marked so warmly. There was cake too and lovely flowers for Mum.
Allan and I are on the left and the minister, Alastair, and his wife, Mairi, are on the right. Dad and Alastair have a rather special bond as they both grew up in the same village on the Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides.
Three good things
1. Special celebrations
2. Loyalty faithfulness and care
3. Blessed lives
Isn't this a lovely occasion Sallie, so pleased that your dads church gave him this tribute for all his dedication & hard work over the years. He must have been quite moved by the surprise. A very happy day for all. I am a great believer that belonging to a church or similar is the key to a long & fulfilling life & your dad & mum always look so contented.

@happypat Thank you Pat. I agree! And they are very contented and appreciative which make anything that needs to be done simply a joy! Of course things are tricky at times at 89 but they do well together and have lovely friends and neighbours and some relatives who pop in regularly. It was a lovely day!

What a worthy honour for your Dad. Somehow fitting on the same day as the Queen's celebration too - to recognise his many years of service and Christian commitment. Such an example - and challenge - to the rest of us. And it warms my heart!

How lovely - and so good that you have nice images to remember the occasion by. The cake looks great - do you have any closeup images of it?

My favourite is the one with your dad receiving his special photo album.

Thank you for your lovely comments. It is certainly a pretty significant milestone in his life and he has always been so selfless in everything he does. I love the one of him getting the album too Dianne
