My photo group got together for some night shoots, and one of the members came up with the idea to do a light paint outline around a person. Here's the result.
@pcoulson Ouch! That's awful Peter! Thanks for the always nice comments. I look forward to your results when you do this. Key is to move the light slowly and manual focus.
Did you use a laser light to create the outline? My first thought was that he was standing in front of headlights, illuminating him from the back. You seem to be enjoying the classes and are learning so much!
@Weezilou just saw your post & I'm sure I have read that laser lights/pointers can be damaging to the sensor in your camera so it might be worth checking that out online before you try. LED lights/torches are cool though.
@lizhammond I would have had no idea, Liz, so thanks for the info! I seem to gather so many photos just within daily life, I was unlikely to go to the experimentation stages, but I'll certainly keep that one in mind!
@lizhammond@Weezilou Yeah, I don't think a laser light would give you very good results and I've also been made to understand that they can do a number on a camera's sensor (as well as a human's eyes!) If I recall we did this shot using the flashlight option on an iPhone, using up the entire 30 seconds of exposure tracing the outline (and inline) of the subject. He had to stand absolutely still for the duration and the person doing the tracing had to hide behind him or keep moving to avoid being part of the shot. We compared each other's results in tonight's class and no two captures were anywhere alike. Fun project.
THANK YOU for that explanation! I was going to ask what the light source had been! That result is even more interesting knowing what was going on behind the scenes! I love that they all turned out differently!
