butterfly over by summerfield

butterfly over

to get to the bridge shown in yesterday's photo, we needed to traverse the large soccer field and oval which is a really vast open field. from out of the vegetation i saw this butterfly gliding above us and it glided across the field. how odd that a butterfly is not doing its work - pollination. but i had the presence of mind to do a panning shot.

strangely enough when we were at the trail/path another one glided above us again. i say glide because they weren't moving or flapping their wings unlike when i see them in plants or flowers.

cropped only, otherwise it's sooc. there's a lot of noise as i forgot to re-set my ISO from the night before when i tried to shoot some birds in trees after sundown.
great in-flight image!

Love the simplicity of this and all the negative space. Plus I'm envious of the fact that you have a butterfly!

@sunnygreenwood - thank you, anne.

@cathrinemitch - i noticed, too, that there's not been a lot of butterflies around. must investigate! thank you, cathy. hope you're feeling okay.

@cheribug - awww, so sweet of you, my cheribug. btw, i was taking of pic of a hawk this afternoon by the big airport. i thought it wasn't quite right that he was frantically flapping its wings then he suddenly fell straight down, which thankfully was a bushy field and right away there were some vulture turkeys. i think he must be hurt, couldn't see him and i can't really get out of the car as we were in a road leading to the ramp to the highway. i don't know why, but i thought about you and your hawks!

@valpak - thank you, valerie.

@salza - well, i'd send you one but i really didn't catch this one. if i really want to get lots of butterfly pics, i just go to the zoo or the gardens. :-) thank you, sally.

@claireuk - ear infection is causing my sinus to flare up. doc said i have 'post nasal drip'. i thought that was just a 1950's thing! :-) thank you, my friend claire.

@678tabby - thank you, june. it was quite a sight to look at. at first i was just staring at it until my friend told me to take a picture. :-) i didn't think i got it this clear at all.

@denisedaly - free as a bird; free as a butterfly. thank you, denise.

@deburahiru - thank you, deb.

@northy - thank you, kiddo.

@maggiemae - why, thank you, maggiemae. panning was the first thing i learned to do with my dslr. i'm quite comfortable now focusing while panning. need more practice though.

I just saw a monarch in our area about two weekends ago. I still have not posted the pics of it. I am having issues staying on the site very regularly. I work long hours, long commute, you know the drill. And have been not up to par health-wise. so...I get on here, and then stay off a few days. I hate that. But better than nothing. I love your Monarch fly over...they fly along way to get to Mexico, so they must keep moving!
