unionville arms pub and grill

partner treated me to a nice italian dinner at lagrotta up north at unionville, ontario. it was the first time we ever dined at that place although we've been there so many times for various reasons, but lately for my photography.

it was quite an amusing dinner. we were seated at a table near the door to the patio. at a corner table outside on the patio was an odd couple: a blondish woman with really dark eyeshadows wearing bedroom slippers which she dragged when walking, and a man, heavy but youngish. they were not very well mannered when eating, chomping food and the woman was eating with her big nose almost on her plate. then they started to argue, the man's body language clearly was intimidating. but the woman just sat there despite him using foul language on her. partner was pissed at the woman saying that she should just leave. i told her that that is the nature of an abusive relationship: the abusee would not leave because her sense of self-confidence had been stripped bare by the abuser. when we left, they were still there, the man still hurling expletives at the woman.

then it was already dark when we came out of the restaurant. cranked the ISO of my Nikon to above 3200 which showed as H1 so i had no problem taking this photo of the other side of the street as we walked down to the car.

for the camera settings challenge of cranked ISO and for the amust4august words challenge for august, today the promt being 'street scene'.

thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated.
Doubles as a great night scene and street scene!

Looks like a lovely place. It is so sad that some people have to endure such abuse. Also not pleasant for those seated nearby as you have to overhear everything but cannot really get involved.

the word amusing is an odd choice for ambient casual horror of the scene you witnessed. I also think that the abusee's don't really perceive what's happening the same way others do; they're mostly hoping that they're acting ok so it won't get worse. And to think this was all unfolding in such an inocuous-looking place.

@francoise - amusing as in soap opera amusing. reminded me of the assistants in our office watching soap in the office cafeteria during lunch and i'd be eating my lunch with that as i wouldn't have a choice. wrong choice of word in the context, i know. sorry if that offended you.

Nice shot for you but sad for that couple. We were once dining at a restaurant by a couple and the man kept making a clicking sound with his tongue. It drove us crazy!!

Great night shot, sad narrative. Much better than my street scene
