this flower symbolizes generosity, sincerity and infatuation. it is the birth flower for those who are born in the month of august. it is a genus of perennial bulbous flowering plants in the iris family (Iridaceae). it is sometimes called the 'sword lily', but usually by its generic name (plural gladioli). it comes in a variety of colours but my favourite is the very light coral or with just a hint of pink. it actually lasts quite a long time especially if the water is replenished in the early morning. like the tulip, it grows longer as it blooms.

Such a beautiful colour! I can understand why these are your favourite. I had some growing in the garden for a while but they are quite delicate and didn't enjoy the wind! We do get some strong winds during summer. To try and stake every flower stalk was not going to be an easy job so I decided that when they came to the end of their season I would lift the bulbs and move them somewhere more protected (but that never happened!)
They are gorgeous, I love the soft colours, I've never tried to grow these in my garden and after seeing these, I think it's about time I did! I like the framing in this shot.
