that's Salvador Dali for you, the spanish-catalan surrealist painter. he designed this perfume bottle for Gala, his wife and long-time artistic muse.
"In 1983, Salvador Dali launched his first fragrance as a tribute to Gala, his wife and muse with whom he was madly in love. To him, perfume was the "most beautiful messenger" of memories and happy moments...
In 1981, after completing the Apparition of the Aphrodite of Knidos painting, he sketched a perfume bottle, drawing inspiration from the sensual lips and nose of the goddess of beauty and love. It is this sketch that would inspire the DALI fragrance launched in 1983, in a crystal numbered limited edition." - www.parfums-salvadordali.com
whenever i think of dali, his masterpiece painting "The Persistence of Memories" with all the melting pocket watches always come to mind.
this is one of the bottles that was loaned to me by Mr. Karim of Pennywise Fragrance shop on the danforth.
this morning i went to the sunday antique market and found some nice old-ish perfume bottles for which i got some great deals. so now, i have more than i need for the month. but i can always post one anytime after december, n'e'st-ce pas?
thank you for your visits and comments; know that they are truly and genuinely appreciated.
Another stunning representation. I do really like Salvador Dali's work and like you his Persistence of Memories is a piece that always springs to mind.
Thinking of artists I wonder what has happened to the artists challenge. Although it was loosing some appeal for me as so many were choosing photographers instead of painters or illustrators.
cool picture. I actually looked this up since it seemed so absurd that a painter would launch a perfume and I thought that your imagination was busy at work.
@salza - i don't remember who was covered in the last artist challenge. and the last one must've been several weeks ago. or probably the last winner decided to revive it in the new year. we'll see in the next few days. thank you, sally.
LOL the only way to improve this Dali-inspired bottle shot would be to have the bottle melting over the edge of the table! Another excellent representation!
As I was reading your description I was trying to figure out which part of the female anatomy this bottle was representing as it seemed curvy, but rather squat with a strange cap!! Well, after you said it was lips and nose it made perfect sense, but I still think it is a rather weird one! You did a fabulous job with it, though, and I love that you included The Persistence of Memory floating around it. Please don't stop! ;-)))
Wow. I never knew Dali had a perfume but this is such a cool find! Mr. Karim must have some interesting bottles! I also love Dali's paintings and sculptures. I was able to visit the Dali Museum in Paris back in 2010 and it was really cool to see. I have lots of crappy pictures though (low light and the days before my dslr)

I think of the same painting and love how you incorporated it into this image!
