it has been quite a while since i've acquired a new book. even then the last time i did it was about photography. which isn't bad, mind you.
i still haven't got myself sucked into using e-books. i prefer to feel and smell the paper with rough edges sometimes; or the small rustling sound when you open the pages; or the softness of the book in your hands.
i also love bookmarks. all kinds, but specially the ones bought at craft fairs - laces, beads, ribbons. i go though a lot of bookmarks, like when i'm reading something gripping and tensive, as i tend to absentmidedly twirl and fold them and sometimes bite them.
i could get lost in a book quite easily. i don't have any qualms cancelling an appointment with a friend when i'm reading a good book. even when i do keep the appointment, i couldn't wait to go home so i can continue with my reading.
i read everything! well, almost everything. i used to read a lot until the wee hours and then i developed insomnia. the cure was reading, too! i tried to read a computer manual and before i finished the second page, i was in la-la land in no time. but i learned how to plug the darn computer.
for the five plus two's "lost in a book" theme.
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated.
I just finished a book I loved. Normally I read quickly so I can get to the end to see what happened, patience isn't one of my strong suits - in fact i'm not sure I have any. The writing was so beautiful, funny, thought provoking i read it slowly and reread many sentences and paragraphs. I haven't read anything quite like it and I highly recommend, "The Elegance of the Hedgehog".
I like how you caught your reflection in this shot.
Life without books would not be worthwhile! I have said before that I need the equivalent of AA as I can walk past a book shop or stall and not stop, usually purchasing at least one book! I would much rather read than watch a movie or TV.
I love "all things old school bookstore" too, but I love e books too. Just last night and today, since I have taken time off 365 for a while, I turned off the internet on my ipad, turned off the TV, and cuddled in bed with my ipad reading. Ipad reading is soooo comfortable, I must say. I fold it over on it's case so it is a stand, and p ut it on a down pillow for the lap desk. And then all I have to do it touch the corner to turn. And I can look up words by touching the word and I can select passage and type notes. Or bookmark. So I love it. But...I still love book marks, real books..and real journals..I bought a journal two years ago just after I thought I loved my ipad journal....but this journal has leather covers and the cover wraps around and there is an antiqued brass "lock" lever thing..I love this book. I was going to let the students put their favorite poem they'd written for the year in it, in their handwriting, because I don't think I will ever write in the book..but I might. So it is still blank. I love to pick it up, flip the pages, and smell the scents of leather and paper.
@espyetta I'm with you MaryBeth. One of my favourite books is a copy of Tennyson's poems. I bought it in a Belfast flea market in the sixties. It has a sued cover and delicate thin paper. It's a joy to handle. I read anything, in any format. I didn't think I'd ever buy ebooks but then I realised I wouldn't have to pack 12+ books in my suitcase to go to Turkey etc. I just take my iPad.
I love this Vikki. I wanted to do something similar but have the image of myself more of a faint 2nd exposure . I just don't have an editing suite that will do it. If you know one please let me know.
@ceilidh - i always use ribbet. com. they have the overlay function and it is easy to use. i use it almost exclusively for my processing. you can also try ipiccy.com or befunky. com.
@summerfield Hi Susan, I've been partnered with you for the get-pushed-week-130. I'd love to see an action shot from you. I hope that works for you.
Great pic, btw. I really like the soft look of the overlay.
@salza - well, i shed off my book addiction for photography. now i need AA for this. hahaha! thank you, sally.
@espyetta - i have a tablet and i tried reading marquez's 100 years o solitude and i so missed reading with a book, i still had to purchase the book itself. old me doesn't want to get sucked up and get used to technology. hehehe! thank you, MB.
@ceilidh - thank you, margaret. another website for processing that is free is pixlr.com. kinda like gimp and photoshop. i'm still for ribbet.
@ceilidh I hope you enjoy it, Margaret. You too @summerfield! I read this book on my iPad by checking it out at library, but I'm going to buy the actual book so I can reread.
Great processing. I find I don't like e-books either. I have a few from Kindle to read on my tablet, just doesn't work for me. LR4 especially didn't work, gave up and I got the book on LR5 when I got that. It's so much easier to use a bookmark.
