the little seamstress by summerfield

the little seamstress

i am in awe of people who can operate a sewing machine. i could never understand how to thread a machine's needle but that's not my biggest problem as i could always ask someone else to do it for me. my biggest problem is spinning the thread on to the bobbin. everyone i knew who could sew made it look so easy, but it's not.

i still remember my mother's distress when the first time i had to use the machine, i broke the damned needle. i knew how to replace it as there was a spare, but that, too, got broke.

fast forward to canada. there's liquid thread, there's elmer's glue, and there's the glue gun. i possess all three and i have three glue guns and two big boxes of glue sticks.

and if really need be, there's the seamstress at the clearner's!
Great picture! I'm hoping to take a sewing class next month to see how I like it. I've wanted to learn for a while but before I buy a machine I think I'd rather test it out and learn :D

What a dear little sewing machine! This wee dainty Japanese madam can't work the treadle with her silly shoes on!

That's so cute! I love to sew but photography has sort of taken over my life so I haven't sewn anything for some time.

Sweet image. I can sew and have a good machine. But these days I see the likes of cushion covers rather than clothes

Sewing lessons in Alabama for free! I learned on a machine just like this only bigger! Fab shot!

You have the most amazing props!! I love that little sewing machine with the foot pedal....not sure if a Geisha would ever operate one, but it makes for a fab picture. I am with you on the sewing part....I never learned how to operate a sewing machine, but I do a mean job sewing things by hand....and, I would rather operate a power tool like a table saw or power drill any day!

I can't sew. My sister @kelly2 is brilliant. She has made her husband and grandson a jacket. My favourites are the designer patterns she uses to create some beautiful outfits. This is a great shot.

oh i love this - looks gorgeous enlarged - my husband's mother and aunt taught me to sew from Burda magazines and it used to be one of my favourite things to do! but when that bloody machine doesnt work grrrrr - usually broken needles is because of something wrong with machine in my experience

Cute composition! Love the own tredle machine too. My mom had one like this for show, and my sister and I used to have endless fun just pumping on the tredle at the bottom. My first sewing machine was a 1940s Singer that my mom found at a garage sale for 20 bucks. It sews straight. That's really all I needed.

Love that treadle machine. I always wanted one. I used to sew a lot, making my own clothes and making patchwork quilts. Now I hardly ever sew. Maybe I should challenge myself to produce something this year!

@summerfield I have been thinking about making another quilt for sometime so maybe I should get that started. Might make for some cool photos, like a diary showing from start to finish!
