katie @archaeofrog 's challenge to me this past week was to "look back at the photographs that you shared during your first month or two or 365 and choose at least one to redo - show off what you've learned in your years of shooting or how you would approach that same subject/shot/topic differently."
it is to be noted that the old photograph was shot from three blocks away using a point and shoot zooming capabilities. this photo was taken just across the building.
i chose to shoot the tower at night with all the lights around the building. this time there are no bare branches stifling the view to the tower and you can better appreciate the design of the tower against the evening sky. there was a line of hydro wire running across the tower and i've cloned it out . also i am more conscious of the straight verticals but unable to do more than a mere straightening as the lens has some distortion when shooting wide.
not entirely happy, as the tripod i was using was temperamental plus i forgot to bring my glasses, but i need to fulfill a challenge. definitely would have to redo this shot while the lights in the park are still there. perhaps this week when it's too cold again as that drives away the homeless who tend to make the park their bedroom at night. also it was rather windy this night so the tripod was probably a bit shaky and the blue lights were being whipped around by the wind's movement.
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing some of your thoughts about putting this together too, and how it is different from your original.
(If you do go back, try going right at sunset or just after, as the blue hour light would be a fabulous backdrop and would add a little more light to the rest of the hall while still getting great glow from those trees.)
admire you for going at night in this cold, cold weather, imagine it can't be much different up there than down here. lovely shot, in comparison of the two, do like this one much better due to the lights. nice mood.
What a fabulous building. Thanks for the tip on Ribbet Vikki. It had been mentioned by Babs as a way to make collages but I hadn't realised it's capacity to edit.
I expect thats what a lot of us could try - redo some old photographs to see if we have improved! This one is just great and I notice your ISO is only 100. It looks a beautiful piece of architecture seen like this, floodlit!
