i just discovered this shot today. maybe it doesn't follow the rule of thirds but sometimes the rule does not make sense.
this was a 'practice' shot as i had just acquired this camera at the time and intentionally set the camera to capture black and white images. this place has given me a lot of photo opportunities ever since i started doing 365 and i can't get enough of it. it is but fitting that if and when i do have a chance to show my collection of photographs that a shot from this place should be included. here the afternoon sun strikes the boats and trees with a warm glow and their reflection are vividly reflected on the still and almost mirror-like water of the bay.
i'm sure this would look good on howard @steeler 's den! :-)
thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated. crazy busy at the office and when away from it, i am reading a really compelling book: 'the goldfinch' by donna tartt, an 800-something page book that i had to buy twice - the book was heavy for a paperback so i had to get it electronically.
this does look wonderful in b&w. great reflections. i keep forgetting that you have this canon. every once in awhile i think about one because my sister is totally canon and bribes me, says we can trade glass - but since i know her, know that will never happen!
@barneyone - no this is not a new camera. i got it during the fall last year. i have a new nikon D5300 though that is still in the box that i haven't opened yet. :-)
@barneyone - :-) the shop where i bought my nikon is closing shop so everything in the store is 50% off. i got a 40mm and a 70-300mm for the canon and i haven't opened the box either. maybe i should check if there are indeed camera stuff inside the box and not a brick or something! :-D
Hi - I am so flabbergasted by your list of get-pushed challenges. From it I discovered that we were partners almost 100 get-pushed ago! Have really enjoyed looking through your project - so many fantastic photos. This time I challenge you to photography something from an ant's point of view. Hope that's okay.
Composition lesson for today: While the Rule of Thirds basically follows the 3 x 3 grid (horizontally or vertically) another way of dividing a shot into thirds is called the Golden Triangle. This division is accomplished by drawing a diagonal line from corner to corner (opposite corners obviously) and then dividing the upper or lower triangle diagonally in half. The shot above is balanced because it can be divided by the Golden Triangle. The first division goes from the lower left to upper right (or vice versa). And then the upper triangle is divided by the boats. The conclusion is that not every picture must be divided by the Rule of Thirds. A dynamic composition such as in this shot can also be achieved by using the Golden Triangle. Ta-da! But maybe you knew that already.
