it's not enough to have feathers

you must dare to fly!

when i used to live in the farmhouse in the beginning of the century, i would drive from and to the farmhouse to take the train to downtown toronto. it was a rather long commute and drive, a total of seven hours both ways. you can expect for some exciting things to happen to offset the boredom. like one summer day, i fancied driving with the airconditioning on when normally i'd just keep the back windows half open. then i put on a tape and was singing at the top of my lungs as i pressed the button to close the back windows, when suddenly there was a frantic flutter behind me, and this as i was merging into highway traffic. it was a small bird! it must've been flying low from underneath the ramp and must've got through the window just as it shut. poor thing kept flying around at the back, thankfully, but it kept hitting the glass and the walls of the interior. it took me a minute to realize that i should perhaps open the window so it could fly out. but it took longer for the bird to fly out and i wondered what the duck i'd do if it flew at me whilst going on 118 kmph! as i signalled to get to the right lane (it was a three-lane highway) so i could stop on the shoulder, the poor thing managed to fly out. whew! i was a bit flustered by that unusual event but i would bet you, someone's feathers were definitely ruffled!

thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are greatly appreciated.

Such a fascinating story. Is this a feather from that bird? I would hardly think so. I love the curls on the tips of it though. You caught some detail and I love that the water drop magnifies that even better.

I'm sorry, "in the beginning of the century" hahaha that sure sounds longer than it really is :) ;) a very neat story, I'm glad he made it out. Good thing it didn't fly into your face at that speed!! Very lovely photo, with the magnification through the drop and the curl of the feathers...
