it's the start of our thanksgiving long weekend. the office is like a ghost town, hardly anyone in there. so i goofed off, this after i came in an hour and a half late in the morning because of subway closures. but i had permission from the boss and he knew i've been itching to go to the islands to take photographs, so off i went....
this was taken coming back to the city. i'd have loved for the background to be the toronto skyline, but the angle of the sun and the ferry's location were such that i had no control so the island airport and the buildings out west are in the background. i couldn't compose it any better because people's hands and heads and cameras were constantly photobombing my shots so this is the best i could and never mind the rule of thirds. i do love the golden tones i've captured. i may have to go back there when the holiday crowds have dispersed, i.e., when it's a bit colder.
too bad songtitle doesn't start until tomorrow, but when i was in the ferry i've been singing (only in my head though) gordon lightfoot's "sundown". here's mr. lightfoot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8rR7E6NfY4 there's an ad in the beginning but it's only a few seconds.
Great capture. We must head back to the island. I think another night time adventure would be great. Take a picnic dinner and try shooting some more of those playing with strings of lights and stuff. Another attempt at the skyline too would be good.
utterly glorious! rule of thirds be damned! the islands are great for sunset shots... i haven't been there in ages... might have to take a day off work one day :)
The tones are gorgeous. You have the disadvantage of knowing what you might have had as your backdrop. But to those who weren't there to see the missed opportunity, we can just admire the beauty of this.
Super shot and so well done for the challenge! Congrats on being selected a finalist Good luck! I love Gordy Lightfoot and so interesting that there are two of his songs as finalists this week.
