"A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth’s flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree."
- Trees, Joyce Kilmer, 1913
this poem, "trees", is my earliest exposure to poetry and literature, as my mother, although not having quite finished grade four, would recite this poem to us since we were little children. that, along with "i shot an arrow into the air" had been part of our childhood, all courtesy of mother.
for the 52-week challenge's landscape assignment for week 44, we feature a tree. this was taken north of my apartment building which you can see behind the two slanted trees. i've been always intrigued by them whenever i walk down don mills road going home. i knew one day i needed to take its picture and this week was the best time to do it. of course you wouldn't recognize them because they've always been part of the overall landscape that i had posted here quite a few times.
Nice shot. I say, I think that I shall never see, a leaning tree. =)
