this key belonged to my ex's mother. the little envelope it is kept in has a notation that it is a key to the round clock. when ex first brought me to their farm house, there was hanging on a wall a large clock which wasn't working and was 'just gathering dust' (the ex's words). i think it wasn't working because they didn't have this key to make it work. the envelope was buried among so many papers and magazines that the old lady had accumulated over the years. she lived in that same house since she got married and had three children, the ex being the youngest. so you can appreciate how old this key is. when the farm house was sold, the ex had long sold the clock to an antique dealer. when we were cleaning up the house, having a fascination for old keys, i took all old keys from the trash can. this i didn't even know existed until i cleaned up my closet in the fall of 2013.
for the new black and white challenge, the subject is "key".
lovely story, bringing meaning and a certain sadness to the picture which is superbly rendered in its simplicity. And what a beautiful key. The one to our grandfather clock inherited from my husbands side isn't anything like as attractive. But perhaps I will photograph it anyway ….
