this is my summer hat, made of straw with a fabric band around the base of the crown. i'd have preferred for the brim to be wider but this one does the job of protecting my face from the sun. the beige colour of the straw does not translate well to black and white but the texture shows off rather well as a counterpoint. no matter. i'd have wanted to shoot outside again but after three near slips on the pavement this morning amid the whipping wind and snow pellets that made the sidewalks slippery as hell, i prefer to stay inside, thank you very much.
for the monthly theme of black and white; also for the six-word story challenge.
The beige may not translate, but the shadows of the woven straw do. Lovely. I hope that you will be careful during this ugly winter weather you're having.
I agree with Northy, it is very elegant. Also very clever to do a twofer.
Chapeau was one of the first french words I picked up when my french canadians were living with us. My son-in-law only spoke to the kids in french so they would learn it.
This is lovely with the cropped composition and details of the texture. And it's a great straw hat. I bought one like this last summer when I couldn't go out without hats and scarves, but they didn't come with broad enough brims for the protection I needed so it didn't get much wear. That and a straw trilby.
