still a rather "warm" day (warmer than the -21 we had last week is what i mean) and i finally managed to make the walk down to the water by the ferry terminal. the part of the lake between the islands and the city is still covered in thick ice sheets, despite it being in the plus degrees for several days now. this ferry went to the ward island terminal and coming back got stuck in the ice. i suppose the comings and goings of vessels and the wind shifted the ice sheets on to the ferry's path. it was stuck there for a long time. if any of those passengers were in a hurry for appointments, they'd have been screwed up for sure. the ice breaker barge took a while to come to the ferry's rescue. the ducks and swans contented themselves to a small space near the docks. i, on the other hand, captured a few photos.
I was going to ask if it was stranded ~ I like it. The bird on the ice adds just the right amount of scale to the composition. I can't imagine the feeling of being stranded out there
@henrir - the ice breakers make a pathway for the ferries to navigate on going and coming back, it's a very short run really, but i suppose the ice sheets shift it with wind and under current movement.
it looks bleak - glad you were free to come and go from the scene unlike those passengers. Must have been miserable stuck there. The image does a good job of showing the harshness of the conditions in which attempts to continue day to day life persist.
