in 2012, our toronto botanical garden sponsored an event where we get to visit the rich people's gardens. i borrowed a friend's dslr as i wanted to photograph things with those soupy bokeh backgrounds. i had only minimal success, but truth be told, i haven't really gone through most of the photos i took. but what i discovered from that event was the dogwood trees with their beautiful flowers. since it was july the flowers were not as abundant and were starting to look scraggly. but after that year, i looked out for dogwood trees but there was only one at the botanical garden, surprisingly. it seemed in toronto the dogwoods grew only on rich people's gardens. π
incidentally, the lady who had asked that i paint in a bigger canvas my painting posted on december 6, the grungy door, paid me $150 for it. thankfully, it was much better done than the first one so i didn't feel guilty taking the money.
this dogwood painting was only half done when she came to pick her painting up and she said she was interested. but it's not negotiable, i'm keeping this one. i painted the background two weekends ago but i was so afraid to do the flowers. finally on sunday, i sat down after lunch and started to paint the flowers. after two hours but it felt more like five, i was so tired but i was very happy how this turned out. i didn't think i have such patience to paint this but there you go. and to top it all, my sister, the artist, loved it and that's more than i could've asked for.
Well done you! Getting paid for a painting and have the approval of your sister is awesome!
In this one I love the blue color. The contrast with the flowers is very nice!
