this weekend the 'doors open toronto' is happening. i was only interested in seeing two places: the provincial legislative building at queen's park, and the great public library at the law school. it was raining though and my sister and i walked three blocks to get to the park and by the time we got there, we were soaking wet. thankfully, we were quite early so there was not a lot of people still. i'm not truly impressed; it's the same old, dimly lit, dark walled hallways. but the one thing i discovered is that us ordinary citizens can come and watch the debates when the parliamentarians are sitting. this is one thing i could do when i retire, go and watch the bastards in flesh.
this is the sitting room across the lieutenant governor's office. apparently they had an unveiling of the new postal stamp featuring our new king. must go the post office and get some.
it was raining harder when we finished and walked in the rain to the restaurant to fortify before going to the great library. by the time we were done eating and walked over to the library, the rain had stopped and the sun was forcing its way out of the heavy clouds. it was a disappointment when we got there as the lineup to get in was two blocks. what's the people's interest in a library for heaven's sakes! i didn't relish the thought of lining up with a rain-drenched coat on my back and i was actually getting a headache so i told my sister i will just go home and i will try to go there myself tomorrow. or i could get one of our students to get me a pass so i can go there on my own one of these days.
not exactly half-and-half but i was being waved by the security guard to get moving and the person beside me shoved me whilst the shutter went off. how rude!
