we drove down to london, about 200 kilometres southwest of toronto, ontario (roughly 2.5 hours each way) to visit our new granddaughter. it was a lovely visit. once we passed the big cities, there were just endless farmlands of all sorts, wheat, soy, corn and with those the occasional smell of manure. of course, i needed to grin and bear it because i was taking photos during the drive and i needed the car window down.
on the drive back, partner pulled over the side of the highway for me to take a photograph of this training track for standard-bred horses. there is just something about horses grazing that appeals to me. i think horses are very elegant animals, majestic, if you will. i took a few shots and had one that i zoomed in but i wanted to share with you the beautiful skies of ontario that prevailed the whole day (accompanied by a sweltering 36 degrees celsius and factoring in the humidex felt more like 42 degrees!). i even like the grass in the foreground.
the heat was a piece of cake though. thanks to mcdonald's $1 drinks. we got a super big cup of iced tea each and that took care of the heat.
@pamfromcalgary - it was quite nice. she's almost two months now and she has changed from when we first saw her three weeks ago. yes, one of these days, i'll post a photo of her. thanks, pam.
Love this scene -- very serene. Reminds me a lot of the Lexington, Ky area where horse farms run rampant. I love the "foxtails" in the foreground (or that's what we call them in Ky), the fences-- just all feels like a pleasant Sunday afternoon!! (I think I even spy some Queen Anne's lace in there, too!)
@cscecil - you know, i saw he queen anne's lace after i posted the photo. so i thought i'd edit my blurb, but i thought i wanted to see if you were going to notice it, because i remembered your posting last night. and you did notice it. good eye! thanks, CS.
What a great shot. I agree with you on horses. I just drove through the country side on my way back from Red Deer to Edmonton today. It was so beautiful to see all the colors in the fields as we drove along the highway
love how you put your name on top of the barn. very cool, that. this photo is so wonderful, in so many ways. love how the road swirls through the fields. standardbreds are a particular favorite of mine from way back. used to be the executive secretary at a harness racing track in maine. the best part of the job was being able to watch the horses every day out on the track. it was a winter racing facility. closed now. had one, a pacer who was too big to make the turns, best ride in the world. like sitting on a rocking chair when she paced. huge girl named whitney's puppy. when they closed, i went to college. life moves on.
@bkbinthecity - can't wait to see your pics. i'll be right there. thanks. @altadc - thanks, alta. @steeler - well, probably less than than the 2.5 hours each way. and we pulled over to the side so i can take a picture of the track :-) thanks, howard. @gbert204955 - oh yeah, they have caretelas in intramuros, i rode in one when i went there last. thank you, gilbert. @danig - maybe the horses are potty trained! hehe! thanks, DG. @jannkc - yup! celcius is a lot easier to deal with than yours over there. thanks, jann. @catsmeowb - wow, that's interesting, camille. you and the ex-partner-presently-driver (haha) here would have a long interesting talk. he follows the pacers and the trotters in meadowlands. thanks, camille.
@slang - as a matter of fact i do have one! i bought it from grand & toy a long time ago, and i have it in my key ring. perhaps the little one's going to be using it in a few more months (she's probably love the "karplunk" sound it would make in the toilet bowl water hehehe!). thanks, sean.
