niagara falls is quite lovely at night, with all the colourful light displays. in the end though, it was this nativity scene by a church that caught my fancy and since it is Christmas eve, i thought it fitting to post. after all, this is where "Christmas" originated from, isn't it?
we didn't have a fancy dinner - tim horton's was it today and we had to enter the casino to get there. so much for an impromptu romantic night out. bah! hambug! but that was my fault because i took so long to take photos of all the wonderful sceneries. niagara falls is one dead town, but that would change in a week from now. here at the hampton inn the rate for our suite is an unbelievable $68 a night with the tax. the same suite from thursday to saturday night (new year weekend), it will be $299 a night plus tax. go figure!
sooc except for the name tag and frame from picnik. and i didn't forget to turn off the IS (whatever that is) when the camera is mounted on a tripod at night. yup, it helps to read those manuals. may you have a pleasant Christmas night, all!
So you made it to Niagara! The nativity is lovely . . and you took the tripod! Bet you didn't get that in your purse . . altho if there was a way. LOL Great comment. One can find romance anywhere . . even at Tim Hortons entered via a casino. State of mind, summerfield. Enjoy your day tomorrow. See you when you get back. :)
@karenann - thank you, karenann. for a 24-hour sojourn, the back of the car is full of my stuff. hahaha. meanwhile, partner has one small bag and yet he ended up carrying all other bags, including the tripod!
@danig - well, it happened that the manual actually fell from the shelf so i thought why don't i bring it with me and read it in the car and that's just what i did. and i learned something new! thank you, DG.
@bkbinthecity - thank you, brian. it is beautiful there at night because of all the lights although much colder. during the daytime it's all just brown and grey.
@jannkc - the adventure was taking the photos at night, lugging the tripod just to get some decent shots (which i did!). and winning $10 in the 25-cent slot machine. i know how to quit while i'm ahead. thank you, jann.
@michaelelliott - thank you, ME. merry Christmas to you, too.
Nice nativity. Glad you got to Niagra safely. Why do you have to turn off IS (image stablization) when you put your camera on the tripod? I am clueless about that.
@espyetta - thank you, MB. there's a part in my canon's manual that strongly advises that. i think it has to do with vibration or noise reduction. when shooting handheld in low light, the IS helps reduce the blur, but it causes more blur when the camera is mounted on a tripod and the IS is not turned off. i'm as clueless and it's so technical my brain's getting blurry, too! :-)
Yes- that's what Christmas is all about and this is a nice tribute! Hope you enjoyed the time in Niagra even if it was on a modest budget. Afterall, it's really not about the cost or atmosphere but about being together. Nice shot!
@slang - thank you, sean. and i wish the same for you and your family.
lovely shot, great colour! hope you have a lovely day!
@sarasdadandmom - thank you, terry.
