i started the month with the photo of a firework for my thumbnail star, ergo it is but fitting that i end the month with a firework thumbnail star to match.
this is called a firework brooch, and it is one of the exceptional pieces of jewelry on exhibition at the museum of mineralogy at the royal ontario museum. again, this was in a safety vaulted glass case, the glass was so thick that the numerous lights illuminating each piece of jewelry make for a difficult shot. but this is the thing i like with the nikon, i can zoom in and adjust the focus and i don't have to deal too much with reflections. good thing, too, that i was the only one in that part of the room, and the guy with the big camera and flash gun was probably not interested in taking photos of jewelry lest his wife would ask him to get her one of these.
this is a 'fireworks' brooch made of diamonds and tanzanite from the house of tiffany & co. the total weight of the brooch is 11.93 carats. although the diamonds are the main subject of this piece of jewelry, the multi-faceted cut tanzanite in the centre clearly is the star.
tanzanite, a gem variety from the mineral zoisite, is named in honour of the country where it was first discovered. tanzanite crystals are of brownish-red colour in their natural state but when subjected to very high temperatures they transform into a beautiful blue or purple hue.
i told partner i want one like this so i can wear it when we go grocery shopping. "but you don't wear jewelry on weekends." "but that's because i don't have weekend jewelry." he rolled his eyes.
thank you, ladies and gents. i am so grateful for your untiring visits and kind comments and hope to catch up on your albums before i get too behind.
dazzling, vikki, and a stunning end to this month's challenge. oh, your narrative is wonderful - weekend jewelry. what a comment! your calendar view came out so great; those radiators created such a smooth line across the page and i really enjoy your red t-shirt announcing you are not bossy. it is so clear, even in thumbnail. nice.
Very pretty- and a brilliant finish to a stellar month. On to August! Now, what should I make for dinner- oh, I don't have to photograph that until August 18th!
Wow, what a star! Now, I remember a piece of jewelry that is in the shape of a star. It sure wouldn't compare to this, it's exquisite. I have always wanted a ring in tanzanite, but it's so expensive now as it's mined out. This is definitely the standout in this piece. I can't believe how well you shot it without any reflection. It's a Fav. for me.
@granny7 - linda, thank you so much. i had to take some awkward positions to take photos of the jewelry and only a handful came out looking nice. my knees are surely paying for it. but i was happy with what i got, as there was a big man with his big camera and long lenses and big flash guns and every time he made a shot, he would chimp and complain that the shot wasn't good and he had to retake. i'd see him shake his head so whenever i get a good shot and he was nearby, i'd pump my fist and say a subdued "yes!" in the end he would shoot at whatever it was i was shooting.
Wow!! Gorgeous ....you sure do know how to end the month with a "star!" This stunning. I think that this piece belongs in your drawer ... for the week-ends only! Your creativity is boggling ... I hope that some of it rubs off on me soon. Hubby is taking me up to the Bay for a couple of days over the week-end and maybe I'll be lucky enough to get inspired and capture some photos. If the weather's good. You can be proud of your expertise on this challenge, summerfield.
@karenann - thank you, KA. you sell yourself short, sister. you're one of the best i know around here, period! and looking forward to beautiful photos from the bay!
@bkbinthecity - i think melody is worth something like this, you know, brian? after all, she's the love of your life, and she's with you through thick and thin, and sometimes you make her do your project. :-D come on, now! thank you, brian.
what a beautiful brooch! (I kept reading the name of that stone as 'Tarzanite' and wondered why they'd named it after him!). Your calendar looks great! I think your radiator series is one of my favourites :)
@myautofocuslife - actually, i kept thinking jumping spider with a green background. i don't know why! :-) or that bad guy in spiderman 2. thank you, livia.
@alia_801 - would look nice on 'jane's' two-piece costume! hahaha! thank you, alia. yours was fabulous, too, and my favourite was the circle series then the lines. brilliant challenge. double thank you to you.
