A Rather Sad Garden

Chris has been gradually putting the garden to bed for the winter - note the tree fern in it's winter duvet. It's all looking quite tidy and ready for when the spring bulbs start to grow but it does look sad with hardly any colour and no garden furniture.
There is areal sense of sadness here but in a few months it will be alive again.

Remember it last summer. I am very sure it will be amazing next year.

That’s the worse part of coming into the colder weather!

Ah, but think how lovely it looks in spring and summer. Something to look forward to.

Such a lovely view as the garden goes to sleep ! It may not be colourful , but the many shdes and structurs of the plants make a lovely view!

It does have that ‘off season’ look to it…but lots of hope and anticipation for next spring tucked neatly in and under the soil.

You just wrap the root? I love those ferns but they are so expensive yet grow like weeds in NZ. Your house & garden look lovely in its winter mode.

Maybe a little sad, Sue, but you still have many greens and that lovely pond giving a nice reflection! (Wow- the duvet!)

I hope it will all be worth it, and your tree fern will survive

Beginning to look rather wintery.

@happypat Thank you Pat. Chris stuffs fleece or something similar into the crown of the tree fern. Usually he cuts all the fronds off but decided to leave a few this year - I think he saw that on a gardening programme. This tree fern has survived 5 winters in it's current position and last year was extremely cold.

@busylady It's survived 5 winters so far Judith and last winter was a particularly bad one. It came back bigger and stronger than ever this year. It's always well wrapped for the winter and Chris stuffs the crown with fleece and I think the fact that it's in a corner gives it some protection.

It must be quite a job to prepare a garden for a cold, snowy Winter.
