Pink Footed Goose (on left) at Martin Mere Wetland Centre
While we were at our guest house in the lake District we heard on the local news that 30,000 Pink Footed Geese had arrived at Martin Mere from their breeding grounds in Spitsbergen, Greenland and Iceland. They will spend the winter here before returning to their breeding grounds in the spring. We had never seen these geese before so we decided to stop there for a couple of hours on our way home. It was incredible. I've never seen so many geese in one place. We did see a few Whooper Swans (see yesterdays post) but most of them hadn't arrived yet.
