On the way back from the Lakes we stopped off at Martin Mere, a large reserve which belongs to and is managed by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. It's a good time to visit because there are many swans, geese, ducks and other wading birds which overwinter here and which we don't often see in other places. This is the only place I've ever seen, let alone photographed, whooper swans and pink footed geese.
