I have often wondered why there were quite so many one legged seagulls around. We have several in Mevagissey, including young Desmond here. I have done a bit of research and discovered that quite often, seagulls have their legs bitten of by carnivorous fish when the are floating about in the sea.
Desmond swears that he lost his leg to a great white shark, but he is one for tall tales is Desmond.
They seem to survive quite happily hopping about with one leg. It certainly doesn't stop them from swooping down from out of nowhere and snatching the odd Cornish pasty or bit of battered cod from the hands of unwary tourists.
Also nice to see a bit of clear blue sky and a bit of warm sunshine for a change.
I thought it was their droppings that they stand in are acidic.... or is that pigeons? Sharks sound more exciting! Lovely shot and well spotted on the foot front!
What a catch, this lone gull in a great blue sky! And very interesting about why there are one-legged gulls. I wonder if the Great White called his particular dinner Legulless.
