Walking through my neighborhood at the golden hour, I spotted the reflection of the fence in a gigantic puddle that makes it impossible to cross the street and stay dry. But it provided a good opportunity for reflection shots. I took several but liked this one because of the pop of the green jacket. Flipped the image before posting.
BW shot for the day that took me almost a year to get -- very excited: so if you get a chance to look, please do (blatant request for additional time for you to spend on my album--sorry!!) http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2014-01-13
Thank you all for your response to my "Ready to Pop" lily shot which has appeared on PP today. I really appreciate your support!
@amandal I love them and today with all the melting, I was hoping I'd at least get one. I ended up with several so have some 'fillers' for down the road if needed. Maybe post one when I'm complaining of the heat in the summer!
Really neat how it boggles the mind. It almost looks like two different people because of the colors. I like how the crooked lines and the dry sidewalk in the center makes it look
@skstein It's pretty straightforward, actually. I work within Aperture but am guessing even more basic programs would allow it. And Aperture is not that advanced. The image already had a good reflection so I just upped the contrast a bit to bring out the color more accurately (I shoot in RAW so it always needs some adjusting). Then, there is a command that says 'rotate' in one of the menus in the program. I just clicked it twice which made the image appear upside down -- giving the reflection the top part and the actual image the reverse view. Hope this made sense!
I'm going to be the bad guy here and say that I like it better un-flipped. Reflections are almost always a stop or two darker than the original image, so that is what my mind wants to work out. For me, the most successful flipped images are those that are nearly all reflection. Obviously, I am in the minority, so feel free to ignore my ramblings.
Ha ha, this is too awesome! When I first looked, I thought you had gone and 'created' the reflection after that post this afternoon with people hemming and hawwing about Photoshop. :P
@rvwalker While in the minority I totally get what you mean. I went back and forth on how to do it, and decided to purposefully go with the brighter pop of color as the 'reflection' so the 'upright' part of it would seem a bit more mysterious on first look. Sort of purposeful play with the photo. But the other way around tends to be better for emphasizing the clarity of the reflection though darker than reality.
I love flipped reflections and this is great. The blues in both theman's jeans and his jacket make a good contrast to the yellows and oranges in the leaves.
A FAV!
