I took this Tuesday but thought I'd save it for today's word of the day: grass. Despite being the major public university in a city known for its architecture, on a scale of 1 - 10, I can't imagine anyone rating our campus structures above a 2 (where 10 is the highest). I think this image conveys the advantage of a wide angle lens. It shrinks the uninteresting architecture. It makes it look like we have rolling hills. The DoF brings the skyscrapers dominating our skyline into the campus scene. And our trees provide a line through the center that breaks up the pretty dull buildings. Anyway, that was my goal. All because today's word was grass. No need to comment as I'm painfully behind in viewing and commenting, and not likely to catch up for the next few days. I really appreciate your comments on the Escher-like image of the staircase -- thank you so much for your wonderful response and favs! Wishing all a good weekend!
Update...totally bummed...Day 100 of Year 2 and this is all I did. Ick!
You made a lovely capture none the less....Love how you did bring the skyscrapers into the image. The Architecture on campus is not exciting but you image lovely. And no snow!!
Interesting in that you were able to create a somewhat surreal image of the campus, and perhaps that's just what it needed to make it interesting . . . something you managed to do!
Nicely done Taffy! And I think you handled this composition really well. Don't down-play the architecture of your school. Like the buildings behind it, it too represents a "era" in style. The school I went to as an under-graduate had several buildings in this genre (the name of which I can't recall right now!) juxtaposed against some lovely structures from the mid-1800's! Somehow it worked together. And although I don't know if the architects who planned your school meant to do this, it appears to me that they deliberately down-played the school buildings in favor of your famous Chicago skyline. Good shot!
@redy4et Thanks Elizabeth!! I just saw your reflection shot and smiled, as I went downtown today specifically to take reflections in glass buildings. Great minds think alike! Enjoy your east coast time.
100 is only a number!! :-)) On the other hand, you cannot fool me with "rolling hills"! I could not wait to get out of Illinois because of how flat it was....and, how far it was from the ocean.....and, did I mention snow?...and, long winters?!!....and, more snow??!
@panthora Too bad it wasn't an April 1st shot -- could easily be April Fool's Day one but wouldn't have fooled you! I agree re Illinois in general -- not a pretty state until you get way way south (which I've not done). But the lake is beautiful and I do love our city!
Great shot.
