I'm posting two photos because this building was so incredible that I could not post only one. It was interesting everywhere I looked. Both photos are of from main chamber, but there were cloisters, side chapels, choral area, geese in a pond, etc. I could have photographed there all day. Each is combined from three photos using Photomatix, necessary because of the uneven lighting throughout. Both were taken using my 14-24mm wide angle lens. I'm glad you enjoyed Snail's adventures - thank you for your comments on those shots and the modern walkway. We leave for Beaver Island in the morning where we live for the summer. This is opening-up weekend, we'll be back in Chicago next week, but I'll be up there for the summer starting mid-June. Major shift in photographs ahead as I move from an urban to extremely rural setting. And it's our first time packing up to open the house without Nutmeg. It has felt odd all day.
This is amazing... from an architectural viewpoint and a photographic slant. The photo is so gorgeous... colors, textures, composition. Words fail... fav.
Taffy, you captured the immensity and grandeur of this building so beautifully. You captured the varying degrees of lighting at each level of the architecture. Super fav!
This is such an amazing shot, Taffy. I was wondering how you get such perfect lighting as I would not be able to. Lighting can be so difficult and surely was at the Zoo this past weekend and sometimes at the park. I will have to check out Photomatix. Have fun at Beaver Island. Meantime this is a fav.
I have so many jumping-off points to exclaim over, but let's start with, "Exquisite cathedral captured so beautifully by you!" It's said that HDR captures the nuances that the human eye can see, but in a space like this, and looking toward all those windows, I think in this instance those bracketed photos capture what we might not be able to see so well! I'm curious, too, were you able to carry a tripod with you into a space like this? You were our emissary over there, bringing us amazing images to pour over in all their detail. Just wonderful! (Something's amiss in your comment about Nutmeg. I'm so sorry that you seem to have lost a dear little friend... After 3 weeks I'm still starting to go check on our 13 year old canary... Loss isn't easy...)
Both are extremely beautiful shots, Taffy. It would be unfair to choose on over the other, but I do love the detail in this closer view. Your bracketing has brought out all the detail and clarity so well, yet you have retained a bit of the typical darkness and sombreness of these large cathedrals. You're so right: one can spend a whole day photographing all the different aspects and views of these structures...they are simply magnificent!
This is such a fabulous capture Taffy! What a stunning place - I have always wanted to visit but not got there yet! Ooh how exciting getting ready for your summer in Beaver Island! I am looking forward to seeing it through your eyes once again! So sad for you to be going without Nutmeg but you will have such happy memories too of a wonderful time with your best friend! Safe journey and enjoy your weekend! Oh yes Fav of course!
Brilliant technical photo of such contrasts, and the architecture is breathtaking! I love Barcelona, I've been there twice with my daughter, but we shopped more than we sight saw.... Would love to go gain with my camera next time. Fav.
An absolutely stunning photo, Taffy - have been looking at it for ages. So inspirational too - I'm just getting into HDR, having noticed you referring several times to combining images, and I'm really seeing the advantages where the exposure is tricky.
@jackie8 Shopping vs photographing -- a very tough choice!! We admittedly did a bit of both in the end and I loved every moment. It is an amazing city, isn't it? I wish we lived closer and didn't have to cross the Atlantic to visit there!
@Weezilou Thanks, Louise, as always! No, I didn't have my tripod in any of these. I had brought it with me on the trip, but I don't think we could have used it in any of the churches or music hall. The only time I used it was taking street shots on Las Ramblas (with Junko) one night. I find I can take three continuous shots as long as my shutter speed is fast enough to handle a little shake. And, like you've seen, Photomatix really has good alignment to its processing system.
Taffy...enjoy your time on Beaver Island...and I so remember when you lost Nutmeg. Made my heart skip a beat! The sound of silence can be so deafening! Fond memories though! Enjoy yourselves. How far to you have to travel from your home?
@eyesmile I'm about to post the sunset for tonight that has details of the trip -- fun that you had asked. It's a 5 1/2 to 6 hour drive and then a 2 hour ferry or 20 minute flight. Usually we move up for the summer, but with our grandson's graduation and my Japan trip, we're back to Chicago on Tuesday -- I'll be back for the summer by June 19th. Thanks for your kind words re Nutmeg too....her spirit is here and we can 'visit' her when the mosquitoes die off -- right now it's just awful so we can't sit in the swing above her grave at the moment.
@Weezilou Nutmeg was the reason I started 365...here's a little info and a link to her memoriam: http://365project.org/taffy/365/2013-12-31 Sorry to read you've lost your canary -- Nutmeg was also 13 when she died -- and you are so right about the difficulty of loss of much loved pets.
FAV -- utterly spectacular! I haven't even downloaded mine to look at them. And realizing that I didn't back up my France photos to have hard drive at home before I left again -- feeling vulnerable carrying around my only copy of France, and not able to put any from Japan on my computer!
myself looking up through the arches. Exquisite architectural detail.
