I'm so glad you liked the city shot taken from the balcony on Saturday night. As I'm terrified of heights, it's not likely there will be many more of those. BUT, here's the balcony scene, taken from the safety of inside tonight as the sun was setting. It's mesmerizing watching the rhythm of the city. And after a truly horrible day yesterday, this scene captures the peace and quiet of the evening.
Good things today...
1. Our insurance adjustor is 'on the case' and I'm confident all is going to work out fine with inventory, storage, etc. Huge relief.
2. Some of our clothes are going to be delivered this Friday.
3. I picked up my computer at Apple first thing this morning and they assured me it would be fine once I restored. Went to Best Buy to get cord to connect hard drive and computer but they didn't have it. Sent me to another store, but I decided better to go to university tech lab.
4. Tech lab had an extra cord, and they restored my computer while I was in a meeting. When I picked up computer, it was as good as new (or as good as a 3 year old computer that works!). They let me keep the cord indefinitely so I would have access to my external hard drive if needed.
5. Spent the evening at home getting further organized as Jim made dinner, for us and for Junko's husband, Bill, who came for dinner after class. Very lovely evening. Felt normal more or less. Views were great.
6. Despite winds raging outside and temperature around 12 degrees (F, not C), we are cosy and warm!
I think within a few days, I'll be back to commenting. I'll try to catch up, working backwards as I'm sure I've missed many wonderful images and threads. Thank you for your continued wonderful support, as I use my project for journaling rather than photography for photography's sake. First step, time to comment. Next step, time for photography!
Well that all seems much more positive!! So pleased for you!! Love the view by day and night!! This is not a view I could ever get bored with!! I am happy you are warm and cosy inside. It will be interesting to see what it looks like when it's snowing which i am sure is coming your way very soon!! Take care!!
Read yesterday's then today's. Glad today has been more positive. It has sounded stressful. I did get a tear in my eye at the thought of you losing some of your books. May they be able to restore and clean as many of your belongings that bring you memories and happiness. Wishing you more sleep and rest tonight as things feel calmer. I would guess the journaling is a therapeutic act for you so you continue for as long as it helps you. These projects are for us and not for our followers at the end of the day. May tomorrow be another positive one and if not may you have the strength and energy to ride the waves of the down days.
Wonderful views, think I like the top one best. Glad to hear things are starting to feel a bit more like normal. I guess it won't feel 'normal' for a while yet but at least you're making progress.
I breathed a huge sigh of relief reading that you've enjoyed a few peaceful moments finally, that your computer is up and running again and that there's hope for your belongings. The top scene here looks cold! The lower image is mesmerizing to study - love all those building lights.
So glad to hear this news and that you have your computer back. Don't worry about catching up as this will only put more stress on you? Glad you managed to get a few more shots of the view.
Baby steps are all that are required, and then only if you feel ready, when you and yours are in crisis.
It's good to focus on the positives as you been. There's strength and hope from that POV.
Hi taffy. I just caught up with your fire news. I am really sorry to hear about it,but also very relieved that no one was hurt. I can imagine though that the loss of our possessions and damage to your home is very upsetting and dealing with the aftermath stressful to say the least. All I can say is that I am thinking of you. Slow deep breaths. Take one day at a time. Best wishes. Janelle xx
I'm just reading about your adventures now, Taffy. So sorry you had to experience all this but glad it's starting to work out and you have a wonderful place to live in the meantime. I haven't gone through a fire but have gone through 2 flooded houses. The first one was the worst. My husband and I were renovating our home (down to the studs) and we had moved all our belongings to the basement. As fate would have it, we had a sewer backup and it really did destroy everything from furniture, to tools to all our photo albums, clothes etc. But, it's all materialistic, and it will all fall in place. Just one step at a time. Sending good luck to you in the coming days/weeks. ;)
it really is such a tremendous view... but as @vignouse noted - such a horrific price to pay... so very sorry to hear of all the trials and tribulations from yesterday... glad today is better - may things continue to go in the right direction from now on!
One step at a time. Glad things are mellowing out in your life a bit. Love your photos, Taffy. How wonderful to have a view like this. You may just get used to it.
Glad to hear your computer is working again and you could keep the cord :) These are wonderful images with great views! good choice to stay inside with your fear of heigths and the cold weather!
What a wonderful view you have...I am expecting to see snow piled up to your balcony!! I know it is cold there, but are you getting that Lake Effect Snow as well? Sounds terrible. Stay warm and cheerful (?)
@eyesmile We're having a beautiful-to-look-at day. I'm about to post an update with today's view and you'll see -- a gorgeous sunny day. I think the snow is all just north of us, thank goodness!! I'm slowly working my way back to 'real' photography and commenting here and there...it's a touch of sanity in all this craziness!
It's good to focus on the positives as you been. There's strength and hope from that POV.
Take it one day at a time and you will get through this in no time!
