Garfield Park Fieldhouse by taffy

Garfield Park Fieldhouse

From the meetup on Sunday to Garfield Park. This fieldhouse's gold dome was recently renovated and had to be sent to Europe to do so. We apparently don't have the artisans here in the US to work with gold domes! Muhammed Ali sparred in the boxing gym here. You can see why this was considered one of the most elegant of Chicago's city parks at one time.
Where did August go???
Gorgeous!

You would think that it would be more cost effective to have the artisans come here? But what do I know? Gorgeous old building!

Great looking building. The dome is very much like what you find in Istanbul. In India too we have a lot of architecture with middle eastern influence.

Nice, that is some wide angel. That is interesting that a boxing ring would be in a building like this. Don't you know Ali thought he was king of the World there.

You have done a fab presentation of this grand old building.

Beautiful building and very nicely presented. Muhammed Ali (or Cassius Clay as I remember him) was the greatest boxer of all times and my favourite. I remember he impressed me when I first say him at the Olympics.

I don't think I've ever been to the Garfield Park field house! How beautiful!

There is so much character in these old buildings. I do like some of the modern glass and steel but wonder if they will stand the test of time. Good shot

those railing are wonderfully symmetric to the building, my OCD is not rattled LOL! what a gorgeous building

Gorgeous detailed capture of this grand old building. My eye was drawn straight to the cross in front of the middle door, making me think it was a church, but then I read your narrative, and I'm guessing it's an illusion?

Fantastic capture of this beautiful architecture - Fav

Love the symmetry in this shot. We know all about gold in Europe, having nicked so much from our empires. Can empathise with your question!

Wonderful shot.

@joeymc Thanks Jo! This isn't an area where it would be likely for people to hang out. It's on the west side of the city and is now quite a poor section with an associated higher crime rate. I only was able to go because this was a meetup with a photography group. We were all fine, but it's not like you'd see kids and families just hanging out. When there is an event, the crowds are more what you would expect to see but not on an event free weekend day.

Beautiful! The clouds add a lot of drama!! And, I have ABSOLUTELY no idea where August went!!! This has truly been a weird year, but I don't need to be telling you this.....just commiserating!! Hope you have a great time back at Beaver Island, and manage to get away from the house, put it behind you for a while and relax!

Wow. Stunning fieldhouse and beautifully photographed.
September 2nd, 2015
Really, they sent the dome away for renovation? I would have thought it easier to bring the experts over! A lovely old building, and good to see they are maintaining it.

So gorgeous! FAV

Stunning picture and perspective. Congratulations on making the Trending Page and the PP. Well deserved.
September 2nd, 2015
That's a beautiful building. Crazy that the dome was sent away rather than bringing the artist to the dome.
September 2nd, 2015
What a beautiful old building! Great that you could visit this area with a group of photographers and feel safe! A wonderful opportunity! Fav!

Great shot! The way the gold dome shines at the top is so cool!
September 2nd, 2015
@skstein Yep - optical illusion of the stair rail going up and the door line in the distance.
September 3rd, 2015
It is certainly an impressive building. I really like it when you use this processing style on these classic Chicago buildings- it really emphasizes the historical aspect of them. The wide angle looks awesome here too- totally brings out the scope of its size. Great shot! fav

needs to be seen large on black to be fully appreciated
