We awoke to fog. We spent the day in fog. The airline gave us hourly updates on the likelihood of our 3:30 departure going as planned. We heard no airplanes overhead. At 4:00, the airline folks called to tell us they were closing for the day. At 5:15, the skies cleared and the sun came out. Grrrrr... But there are worse things that spending an extra night on the island! I just finished moving/cancelling all Monday obligations in Chicago. Cereal or a peanut butter sandwich for dinner as we timed food for the weekend too perfectly!
That reminds me of my family holidays in Jersey C.I if it got foggy people would be stranded for days. As a child this never bothered me as it mentions an extended stay which I liked :) As an adult I can see it's a bit of a nightmare..
If you have to be stuck somewhere you're in a good place. Cereal and PB maybe. Could be worse. I like the shot, really captures the clammy feeling of fog very well.
I love how this image shows how only the first layer of trees are clearly visible, and how thick the fog is. I'm so sorry you had the frustration of waiting, and hope all goes well for tomorrow. As I get older, one of the things I realize is that there's really not that much in life that is so urgent that we should take any sort of risk. At all.
Sounds like you are putting a brave face on this unexpected change of arrangements. The photo is so elegant and atmospheric with the blanket of fog. Trees and fog make a perfect combination in photography and you pulled this off so well.
Sorry about the change in plans due to the fog but at least you got this amazing photo. Love how the fog creates this blanket of atmosphere on the surroundings.
@888rachel Thanks Rachel! But I misled...it actually just meant hanging out at our house. The island is so small that the airline folks literally call you if the flight is going to go, and then we drive up to the airport, which is less than 10 minutes away. These are 6 - 8 seater planes. And you can even tell them where to call you if you want to go out for some reason (to someone else's house, or a restaurant if it hadn't been a holiday with everything closed). We really didn't suffer much! Just was a pain switching things from Monday to Tuesday back in Chicago (and we're back now -- beautiful day today for driving).
A 'pea-souper', as we'd say!!! Lovely atmospheric capture. I know the feeling of the food running out because of perfect timing and an unexpected extra night! Glad you made it back, albeit a day late!
@lesip It was definitely solid fog! For winter months, only the plane provides access (a six seater including the pilot, so any window gives us the same view, but the wings are overhead). We could take the ferry but it's 2 hours and when the sea is not calm, I get seasick! On a beautiful day, there's nothing like the ferry for relaxing on our way there. On our way home, we almost always fly to save time.
