Taken on Turtle Rock Trail in Vedauwoo recreation area. It was so foggy that we basically kept the huge turtle-shaped rock (a very high rock climbing area without fog and rain) on our right so we wouldn't get lost. But it was a 3 mile hike turned into a 5 mile one, at 9000 feet, as of course, we got lost! Without a rain sleeve for my camera, I took it out of my backpack only occasionally. I liked the fog in this scene - visible in the background but with a fairly clear view of the pond. Aspens and brush in fall colors made everything look golden.
Have returned to Beaver Island after a day in Chicago and will be here a few weeks. Sadly, our freezer door somehow became ajar while we were away for a week and we have lost the entire contents -- too risky to eat, I think. A very expensive lesson.
Lovely scene. Bad news about the freezer. It gets expensive when you lose the lot isn't it. We lost power for 4 days last year after a sub tropical cyclone and lost the contents of our freezer. We have now got a generator so are prepared for the next one.
You seem to be very good at putting a brave face on things. An expressive shot to mark the day of your walking. That freezer misfortune must be more than a tad annoying.
Love it, despite your hiking conditions. One thing I always keep in my pocket is a throwaway shower cap. I put it on the saddle of my bicycle if it is raining to keep it dry or alternatively I cover my camera with it in emergencies. Does the job anyway!
So sorry about the freezer, how frustrating.
@casablanca A great idea!! Thanks for the suggestion...I'm going to put one in my pack today. Takes no room, and so useful! And thanks for the kind comment.
Wonderful image and story! I have been lost on those type of hikes as well:) And just last year we lost everything in our big chest freezer because it became unplugged. I feel your pain!!
Beautiful shot (and P3 was cute too which I forgot to say on his picture!). I know about loosing a freezer full of food. We had just stocked ours with several hundred dollars worth of meat and went to visit my Dad in Vt. While we were gone there was a power outage and the freezer never turned back on. You can imagine the smell we came home to! Thankfully the company replaced both meat and freezer but I felt sooo bad for the delivery guys that came to take it away. I like how the fog makes the yellow pop.
Beautiful, but does look cold and miserable. So sorry to hear about the freezer disaster. I know just how you feel. While we were in Europe last year there was a power surge here that tripped our safety switch. The neighbour who had a key didn't think to come over and check so when we got home the contents of both the large upright freezer and the fridge freezer were all either thawed or partially defrosted. Thank goodness for Maggie. Since dogs don't get salmonella poisoning we refroze all the meat for her consumption. She had a wonderful time eating her way through fillet steak, leg of lamb, chicken breasts etc, etc.
Beautiful image and story. My farm near Lonavla in the hills has heavy rain and mist and this reminds me of that. Of course in the tropical heat the vegetation is very different! Fav.
Sorry to hear about your freezer, what a horrid thing to happen.

Sorry to hear about your freezer troubles, has happened to me too, very annoying,
