I'm Back! by taffy

I'm Back!

Last one of the praying mantis. I've found out these can be very nasty insects, even to the point of attacking and eating hummingbirds! EEEK!!
Never knew that about eating hummingbirds, though I did know that they are formidable predators.

Knew that I hadn't liked them before, but sure didn't realize that they were that vicious. :-) great shot.

Like the shot but not the critter - never knew about them before.

His (her??) face is really amazing. Devouring hummers, though? Oh, dear.

They are actually aliens come to Earth to spy on humans. Beware.
September 10th, 2020
Well, well, hello there mate. Don't tell the anti-vaxxers and their friends about this alien invasion.

Stunning macro of the lovely face, totally new to me that they can be that vicious.

Another great capture! I never realised how they hunted even tiny hummers! What a shock! How big is he?

A great photo Taffy. I didn't realise they were so nasty. It's good to hear from you again.Fav

Really?! Not to be messed with! Wonderful image.
September 10th, 2020
oh you just have to keep taking these photos when the moment presents don't you! I'd imagine it takes a fair sized one to snatch a hummingbird!

Looking over the edge and I am sure I heard him say " Who goes there !" - fav

They come in hot summer and everyone is delighted with it. These newcomers are very dangerous because they have no natural enemies and they displace native creatures. Great pov and dof.

I thought catching hummers was a myth, but NO! These cool creatures are fierce! (And beware to their males, just sayin'.)

Fabulous shot of this nasty insect!

Love the focus.

Fabulous focus and detail. They are fierce predators. I've seen small ones taking on wasps, but would never have imagined them taking on hummingbirds.

Those eyes :)....great shot.
September 10th, 2020
It does have a "cunning look" about it.

attacking hummingbirds??? cripes! who knew? love the gold and turquoise look here
September 10th, 2020
Attacking hummingbirds? Incredible! I only saw one female eating her husband once and it was nasty enough for me! 😉
September 10th, 2020
What a super close-up of his face. They are always look so intimidating. :)
September 10th, 2020
I've heard that. My husband picked one up for me to photograph several years ago and I was concerned at the time it might bite him.
September 10th, 2020
@pamknowler This one was about 5 inches long.
September 11th, 2020
@taffy OMG that’s huge! Not sure I would be getting close for a photo!

Cool capture!

Great shot

Wow- I never heard of them attacking hummingbirds but I did know that since they are carnivores they can be quite vicious in hunting down the bugs they like to eat. Perhaps Praying Mantis should be Preying Mantis!
September 12th, 2020
Hard to see how that could eat a bird, quite amazing. Love the shot - which does show his more intimidating side I think.
