Beaver Island's traditional parade returned this year with a range of participants. I was walking with the "Baroque on Beaver" float and taking photos along the way. This gives you the view as you'd enter the main street in town. From this perspective you can get a feel of the crowds lining the street and our 'business district." It was a beautiful day with a great turnout. Fireworks are tomorrow night.
@jgpittenger@pdulis@ljmanning@merrelyn Thanks for your visit/comments! I was pretty surprised at the turnout and almost complete lack of masks. There was room for more social distancing but folks didn't seem to be thinking about that. Fortunately, we've had no virus on the island in a while, but of course, after this weekend, we are all waiting with fingers crossed that we have no spread. Jane, population here has increased by 20% since the pandemic, to about 550 or so year-round residents. In the summer, it jumps up to a few thousand.
Echo the remarks about the crowds, but there is plenty of fresh air and that is probably just me being nervous. ;). Looks like a wonderful turnout for the parade!!
Ii love how you draw us into the parade with your pov and how bright and cheerful the scene is. I also noticed no distancing and no masks! Did the parade participants wear masks? I'm also fascinated that the island population jumped by 20% -- that's a LOT!
@lesip It is really remote here — 33 miles into Lake Michigan and unbridged so accessible only by ferry (2 hours) or flight (15 minute). So to see all these people was quite a surprise. 600 permanent residents but in the summer it can jump up to 3000 including visitors and seasonal folks like us. I think everyone on the island must have decided to go to the parade this year!
