St James Harbor by taffy

St James Harbor

The artist challenge this round is honoring David Hilliard - http://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/22942/new-artist-challenge-david-hilliard for more information. A characteristic style of his work is three-photo triptychs of a single photo, separated by white borders. This is my first attempt -- it was fun figuring out a way to do it -- may be worth a second try!

Lovely triptych .... this would look nice on a wall :)

You did very well. It looks amazing.

I love the spot of red in the left panel. This looks wonderful.
You have inspired me to have a go at the artist challenge, not something I normally do, so thank you.
July 11th, 2014
Lovely sequence of panels. Love the intense blue.

@dibzgreasley This one was really fun to do -- I rarely have done the artist challenge but for some reason this one appealed to me.

I'm enjoying these. Love this one. So calm. Beautiful blues. Each one would stand alone but together are so much more.

Very nice Taffy. Love the colours. Makes a wonderful photo from 3 great ones! Fav

Stunning - love the style and the composition and colour.
July 11th, 2014
Beautiful work here, I´m not familiar with the artist but you sound like you have studied him and his style, looks like you have done him justice
July 11th, 2014
I love how this triptych leads the eye from left to right with the greater use of negative space and distance leading to the dominance of the lines and pier. Very nice!
July 11th, 2014
This is so cool!! I have never done one of these artist challenges either, but I think this one would be a fun one! Thanks for intriguing me enough to look him up....and, I just figured out how to do this in PicMonkey! :-)

Brilliant and a perfect entry for the artists challenge,
July 11th, 2014
Oh, I want to try this one too and it's been on my mind all week. I am thinking if the weather cooperates I would go to the beach and take my three shots so the water level is different in each of the three shots and the # of people. To tell the story. This is lovely. So glad you did one too.

This is one of the best Hilliard inspired shot I've seen. Beautifully done.
July 11th, 2014
Love that they all create a larger photo when put together. Beautiful work!

July 11th, 2014
Great panel shot(s)! What beautiful blue sky and water!
July 11th, 2014
Fantastic panoramic shot and perfect for the challenge.
July 11th, 2014
It really looks great, Taffy, and I Am so intrigued at how you actually did this...did you take one picture, cropped it to a pano format and then separated it into 3 parts with white borders, or did you take 3 separate pictures? Well, either way you are genius! Interesting thing is that none of the 3 pictures make a "good" picture on their own, having either lack of composition, interest or focal point (perhaps the one on the left could stand on its own), but combined they make a terrific picture...which tells me that, if I were to attempt this, I would go for the single picture edited into three...

Beautiful Taffy
July 11th, 2014
Love all the shots and what a fabulous triptych. fav
July 11th, 2014
@ericdibosco Yep -- you've guessed it! I may try one the other way, but thought it best to start with a composition I could imagine in my head so that I could make sure I had the elements I'd want.
July 11th, 2014
Lovely triptych!
July 11th, 2014
Oh! this is so cool. I really love the pop of red in the left hand shot. Fav.
July 11th, 2014
@taffy I saw the trees images first, and think you're right. This triptych is colourful and full of interest, but not technically as good as the other one. But I still enjoyed looking at it. Particularly liked the splash of red.
July 12th, 2014
@golftragic I totally agree -- I was much more focused in the trees on alignment and balance, things I didn't notice until after I'd posted the water one.
July 12th, 2014
@taffy And the difference is quite visible too. Mind you, if you had another crack at the harbour triptych now I reckon you'd nail it. I haven't yet been game enough to have a go at this challenge!
July 12th, 2014
@golftragic The one I find REALLY annoying, but I don't want to lose all the comments, is the one on the right. Egad...the lack of matchup is huge. UGH.
July 12th, 2014
What a fun challenge! I think I would have been tempted to have just water in the middle shot. I'll have to have a go and see if I can do half as good :) I didn't notice that it wasn't matched up until I read your comment.
July 12th, 2014
Yummy! FAv!
July 12th, 2014
@taffy True, but perfection is always just one step away.
July 12th, 2014
Ahhhhh...wonderful and another fav! Love that blue and the scene is lovely!
July 12th, 2014
This is beautiful, Taffy. I love the distribution of the elements across the triptych and that little pop of red of the roof. Lovely tones. Fav.
July 12th, 2014
Now, this one I really like… :-) Nice blues...
July 13th, 2014
This is perfect for the challenge I am really enjoying these shots. Fab comp.
July 13th, 2014
Oh, this is fabulous!
July 15th, 2014
I didn't see this the first time around and totally missed the challenge- but I really like this shot and it works well with the three way division.
