Junko in Low-Key

Junko ( @jyokota) was in town briefly and we were able to spend the afternoon/evening together. A great day for friends and photos! Knowing my get-pushed this week from @missmercy is portraits in low-key, she was a good sport, serving as model while on the phone trying to sort a problem with her upcoming airline reservation. We then headed out across campus, caught the L (subway), then walked through downtown the Art Institute to see the new Picasso exhibit. Photographing along the way, at the exhibit, back a the house -- and enjoying catching up. For a change, I have too many photos that I'd like to post!
PS On my computer, it isn't nearly as dark as it was when I posted. I have tried to up the exposure in hopes that it posts better now. It looks too bright on my computer, though.
@missmercy Attempt #2 -- portrait this time in low-key

@pflaume Thanks Lisa! The lighting was an element of luck. Junko happened to sit at the end of the sofa by the window. Just behind her right shoulder are three door-size windows that have a southern exposure. The translucent blinds were down on the one immediately behind her, and the middle one was open halfway. And it was very cloudy and rainy, so even at 5:00, there was no direct sunlight. That was just enough light that at a relatively low shutter speed, a wide aperture, and a reasonable ISO (500), I could shoot a low-light image. Given that my challenge had been to do a low-key portrait, it just worked out using natural light.

@jyokota I actually think the cord is important for that 'attached to technology' look that I thought it showed. And you were so right to use the version that had the computer in it. Much more interesting a shot than the ones that were horizontal and only showed you on the phone.

Love the light. You know, I have that same problem at times - looks so much different on my computer than on 365??

@sjouk @dreamatrix @barbsmith Thank you all! I really wanted to do justice to Junko since she's one of our 365ers!
