So Why Are They Called a Frogmouth?

Rhoda spotted this Tawny Frogmouth spending his day in the tree just outside our kitchen window. Very considerate of him to make himself so available.

He had been harassed by some micky birds a minute earlier and had adopted his defensive pose of head and neck extended and mouth open. By the time I got to take this shot they had left him and he had pulled back but still had his mouth open
ahhhh.... now I know. :) Good on Rhonda for spotting this..

Well done spotting this fellow. I've spend hours looking for Tawny's when I've heard their call, so I know they're there somewhere.

Wow, well done Rhoda for spotting him, we saw one a few weeks ago when we were out with our walking group. Not easy to spot as they blend in so well. fav.

What an extraordinary bird- it is isn’t? I wonder what it eats as its beak looks soft.
