I’ve walked through Walsall Arboretum a number of times, but always nattering with my daughter, who lives next to the park. Today I walked through alone…and spotted so many things I hadn’t noticed before.
The plaque accompanying these stocks reads: ‘The history of the town stocks is lost in time but it is thought they were introduced in the thirteenth century. They were moved from the steps at the foot of St Matthew’s church to the park in 1904. The taller of the two posts is known as the Whipping Post’
