Reach for the Sky: Ancient and Modern

This is the church at Rennes Diocesan Headquarters, pictured with an adjacent tower block. I liked the visual metaphor of the difference between what reaching for the sky meant in medieval times compared with what it might mean today... and with a nod to the countryside that both these buildings have usurped.
beautifully composed - wonderful contrast and I love love love the tree

Really wonderful shot -- contrasting the classic and the modern architectural styles. The tree provides another contrast of man/nature.

The graceful lines of the church so outclass the modern structure (in my humble opinion)...great lines, contrasts, composition in this shot

Strange juxtaposition Richard. Not sure whether I like it or not. I guess that makes it a powerful shot...

I love the old and new together- the tree in the foreground is very cool as well and sort of pulls it all together

I like the juxtaposition of ancient and modern. Beautiful sky. My eye is drawn upwards to those gorgeous clouds.

The texture of the tree in between ties the two structures together. Beautiful composition.

Richard the composition is just amazing. First the church, then the tree and skyscraper and then the clouds. Wonderful and a fav.

The tree representing the countryside too. Fabulous shot Richard - please don't tell me you put it together in Photoshop or I might have to delete the fav! :-)

I love that you caught these two together. What a "clandestine" meeting of the two! Very nice in B&W.

Wonderful juxtaposition and gotta love that dramatic sky!

I'm sure you could find metaphorical significance in the fact that the old church reaches into the clear sky, while the modern city has clouds.

@yrhenwr No, it's a real scene David... I was struck by the contrasts - church, tower-block, tree - and processed the picture to accentuate those contrasts, but otherwise it's as seen.

This is an axing contrast. Excellent processing as well!
