Although it's name translates as 'The Pavillion' you can see that it is a proper grown-up château! It overlooks the Mill Pond from yesterday's post. The archway to the left is the entrance to the stables. The estate comprises 5000 hectares of mixed forest.
Interestingly, the house was commandeered by the German high command during the war and became the communications headquarters for western France. There are extensive rooms and tunnels beneath the courtyard which housed a command post and an extensive telephone switchboard system. They are protected from attack by a 2 m thick reinforced concrete shell.
This was processed to view on black and is my day 2 entry for the February Flash of Red challenge - this week's theme is landscapes.
Excellent processing of this well composed shot! Love the natural framing of the chateau between the trees. Nice to see you have detail in the foreground, middle ground and all the way to the chateau.
Interesting info as well.
Well done and A FAV!
What a grand looking place with such interesting history, may be a book should be written about it!
They could commission yourself to take the image for the book cover.
