I inflicted Paimpont Abbey on you in my 365 album post for 6 February - https://365project.org/vignouse/365/2017-02-06 - this is from more or less the same PoV but this time by night with the Abbey frontage floodlit. I had just left a worship preparation meeting which was held in the ground-floor room with the lit windows.
This is for my PLAY project - you can read more about it in my profile - where I'll be using a different prime lens for each month of the year: for February it's the Fujinon 18mm f/2 on an APS-C sensor camera (today the Fuji X-Pro1) - the equivalent of a 28mm lens on a full-frame camera.
Beautiful. Did you use a tripod? I have yet to use mine for anything but shooting at home, but it's on my list for this year (along with learning back-button focusing). A 28mm/2.8 is my most recent acquisition and I love it for portraits against a wide, scenic background.
@cjoye@judithdeacon Thank you both - no, no tripod this evening as this was an ad-hoc capture. You'll see from the Exif data that this was h/held at 1/10 sec and ISO 3200 without stabilisation... it's not pin-sharp but not bad in the circumstances!
@cjoye I meant to comment about back-button focussing - it's a must! Put simply it separates the focus and exposure functions but with a big bonus. If you press and release the back button, you've locked the focus until you press the button again. If you press and hold the button, now you are in continuous focus mode without the need to dive into menus. Try it - it will become second nature almost straight-away.
Lovely shot of the abbey at night. I need to figure out back-button focussing. I watched a brief video about using this on the camera I'm shooting with now.
@vignouse Thank you for both the explanation and the encouragement! I kept seeing it recommended, but never really understood why. Now I will definitely make it a priority to learn this month. Thank you!
