Ever have those moments when something happens and whereas a normal person would do something else, you go for the camera? Those moments, when you suddenly realize that you're addicted, hopelessly addicted, to photography...
@sarie :D I think people living with (or close to) us must think us completely bonkers at times... Hahah! And I bet you'll have so many laughs out of that photo later, when your kids grow up. Then you'll all be glad you are addicted.
Yeah, my husband is just used to me running for my camera instead of, you know, taking care of my children first. LOL My middle son is often saying "mama take picture?" and pointing to my camera.
yeah..it's bad here too...I'm that "crazy lady with the camera" around here! :-D
My co-workers even think about me and my photography now, when they take their lunch time walks...one cupped a ladybug during her walk, and brought it to my desk "in case" I wanted to photograph it! LOL
I do understand what is happening to you. You are developing your eye and responding quicker. As long as you continue to look for pictures your eye will become more selective. It's part of the growing process as a photographer. I say never pass up an opportunity if you feel there is something of value in taking a picture. I went through that stage and am now settling into a more realistic approach for me. I am becoming much more selective in my final pictures and brutal about deleting those I have no use for. If I would hang it on my wall or have a place to post it online for public or personal use, then it stays otherwise it is taking up valuable real estate on my computer and has to go.
@dmortega Whoah, that's a pretty high standard for keeping photos (although, posting online for personal use is far different than hanging it on a wall, I guess). This project has made me save too many photos of my kids this year, but I'm sure there are some in there that I want for a personal memory bank even if I wouldn't display the photo on a wall or online. Hmmm, something to chew on for me.
@dmortega You are probably very much in the right, Dorrena. This project (and getting into DSLR photography in the first place) has been one huge excercise in training my eye. And sure, I would never use that spaghetti shot anywhere else, other than as a diary shot in my project. But I know that eventually this'll "cool down" and I'll get closer to what you're describing. In the meanwhile I'm going to have a good time catching myself doing stuff like this. Have a little laugh at myself every once and a while. This is not art, this is life. :) And then I'll eventually (hopefully) get more to the art side of things. :)
@rockinrobyn I'm not deleting that many shots, either. Who was it that said you should never delete a single frame you've taken? Can't remember, but at the moment I'm more in that category, definitely. And sure, memory is going to be an issue with the computer soon... :D (1Tb down, one to go...)
:D It's so great to talk to people who understand! I do have to say that when my dog shredded my school paper and spread the pieces all across the kitchen floor, grabbing the camera was completely justified. My teached wouldn't have believed "my dog ate my homework" without evidence of the crime scene. I even taped off the doorways and set numbered markers around, just for effect :p
@spirrowshoot Hahahah! That picture must've been priceless! :D And I would've loved to see the look on your teacher's face. :D (If I got a shot like that from one of my students, I'd probably crack up so bad...)
@joa --- Yep, life is art and it is what makes our life fun. :-)
@rockinrobyn --- It's taken me several years to come to this. I've got so many pictures and am now looking at ways to preserve them for generations to come. Also, just keeping them is becoming problematic. Reliable storage that will still be viable for years from now, is sketchy. So, I do need to be sure that what I keep is something worth keeping.
Dropped our ice creams, got replacement ones off the lovely ice cream man (because I was the first to drop their ice creams all week) then went back outside to capture the mess I had made:
at a grocery store in Japan....when i was supposed to be watching my "niece" (and by "watching", her Mom probably did not mean "taking pics of the silly wording on the grocery cart".).....lol
a bird decided she needed house insurance and came to visit me at work, in my office
this HUGE bug decided to shower with me!! and I grab the camera.. Go figure.. Addicted.. YES!
@joa No, now that would be way too scary. I had it in the next room. it still cracks me up, 11 months ago I would have screeched and yelled and acted like I was dying, to .. Oh wow, cool. .how'd he get in here.. Where's my camera? We had a black snake on the porch one evening and before we even got all the way up the porch I was telling the BF. Let me get his picture first!!!!!
@cheribug Lol! I think I might've screeched a bit and then run for the camera! :D But it's great how a project like this can really change your views of life. For life, I hope. :)
discovered the donkeys had escaped from their field into our garden. Instead of getting them out, I risked them eating and trampling everything even more to run back to the house and get my camera!
Oh yeah, I'm wondering if I am going to lighten up at all on the number of shots I take each day when I finish my first full year on 365 on Nov. 11th?
Probably not, is that an addiction? Well alright..............................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm with the ones that keep the camera on the passengers seat in the car and sometimes an extra camera in my pocket!!!
Yep! Here is my example. And here is my caption that went with it: "Most people spill coffee and clean it up. I spill coffee and think to myself, "Oooh, that would make a neat picture!" And now I kind of want to make a postcard of it. Welcome to my strange little world."
@jantan Oh-em-gee, how cute are they? :D Great shot, Jan! And definitely worth a few trampled flowers, I think. ;) @shweetheart Well, thank you - it wouldn't be so great if you guys weren't participating. :) (But I'm happy to see that the first ever discussion thread I started brings so many smiles on people's faces. Yay for that!) @godders Ooh, I like the way you see (eye) candy! I have to admit doing the same thing... And not just with candy, other food stuffs too. :D @northy That's brilliant! :D Perfect timing! Did you catch it in the end? ;) @jtrudell :D @sailingmusic I don't know if you can take a break from addiction... So keep on clicking away, Myrna! :D But congrats for being so close to the end of year one! @welcometocarolworld Hahaha, here's a heartfelt one for you: DUH! :D (And what a timing on that shot, super!) @istacy1011 Yup, my thoughts exactly. Earlier this summer I dropped two eggs on the floor. Guess twice what I did? :D @5unflow3r Now that's a new word for me. Katydid. Thanks, Trina! My vocabulary was good enough for "eeeek bug", but nothing more. :D (Gosh, how I love this project. I learn all sorts of stuff!)
Thanks all for making this a perfect thread to read in the morning. I'm in a good mood now, smiling. Keep'em comin', if you have more shots and stories! They're great! :)
@northy You must be quick on your feet! :D @clmiller Oh, well spotted! And so nice of the hopper to stay for the photo shoot! :) @rosiekind I can totally understand that! It's a beautiful shot! You even had time for a great composition! Well done! :) @bluesteel44 Yeah, well, if you're already late, what's a few more minutes... :D
I love these threads, it makes me seem almost normal. I spend a good 100 photos chasing this milkweed seed down for a photo...my 5 year old nephew wanted to know "what in the world I was doing..." he didn't think taking photos of it was a good answer.
@httpgeffed Oh, we're all normal here. It's just a question of how to define normal. :D And the seed shot - quite lovely! @lyno In this case I can understand why the camera was the second thing in your mind. The shot looks cool in b&w. @lauriez I've done that same shot! Those coffee grounds make for the most interesting patterns! :) @webfoot That's super cool and an excellent shot, too! @rich57 Hahaha, ouch! I'm sure a small boy would be interested in all things bloody - but his own nose? :D What a shot!
This was one of my best examples. My wife, and most of the people in the store, were looking at me with some strange expressions that said "is that guy really following his wife through a clothing store with a camera?" Hey, I needed a picture!
@joa LOL i totally understand... most of my photos like that are posted on facebook not 365... ones of the kids my youngest was playing in the kitchen got his hood caught on the fridge handle couldnt get unstuck so instead of helping him i got the camera out ;) ahhh its a parents right to take photos of kids before you help them yeah?? hehe.
I took my camera with me to Ikea 2 days ago, and didn't take photos from the rooms (like other people did), but got on my knees, hung above things or pointed my camera upwards and so did my mum :P And i could here the people think what are they doing!
@bankmann Well, someone's got to capture the little moments in life - like moving office! :) I like that you used a fish eye view, and the edit is quite "techie". :) @jcarrollphoto Hehe, I bet the others were thinking "Who is she? Is she a celeb? Why does she have her own photographer with her?" :D That's a great shot - I think I need to do something similar one of these days. :) @sam_cr I think you're right. :D It's the parents' right to capture their offspring's awkward moments for posterity. :D @nicoleterheide Nicole, I do exactly that, too! :D Interior design stores and all sorts of arts&crafts stores are wonderful for photography! And with the masses of identical items in Ikea - perfect!

@peadar Yes, I suppose many would grab a sausage and eat it instead of photographing it. :D
My co-workers even think about me and my photography now, when they take their lunch time walks...one cupped a ladybug during her walk, and brought it to my desk "in case" I wanted to photograph it! LOL
@kph129 Those guilty eyes are a dead giveaway! I love this shot :)

Addicted, I'd say!!

I couldn't go for a walk without taking this one
