What an exciting day. Climbed the cathedral's tower to just below the spire and we heard the noon bells chime standing just beneath them. When standing ourside we watched two young peregrine falcons sour from below to above us. Later we watched two kingfishers hunting for 15 minutes. Photos of birds are little blobs!!
Many moons ago, R was away on biz for the w/e and I spent the Saturday at Salisbury Cathedral, including the Roof Tour. I'm a vertigo freak, yet so much wanted to go out on the roof...and did...whilst leaning against it the whole time I was there. Freaky! Interestingly, many years later, resident in France, my ENT doctor asked me if I suffered from vertigo. I nearly kissed him! It was the first time anyone had taken me seriously about it. What solace!
@s4sayer Those wooden stairs are sooooooo ricketty. Very brave of you Margo. Had a wonderful day. @salza Was so lucky to get to middle of the upper layer to capture this shot!! I've 'deleted' a sign and a person
@jqf so interesting and quite quite beautiful @granagringa that was just level one!!! @carole_sandford as with Lincoln cathedral the architecture is mind-blowing. It's also got subsidence to the right! @wendyfrost so so lucky that the tour stopped with me in the centre to get this symmetry!! @dawnee thanks Dawn, it was breathtaking and behind us mediaeval stained window we could have touched @joysabin thank you so much for your lovely compliments @farmreporter symmetry down to luck of where the tour stopped with me in the centre!!! Another fluke.
You all put the cathedral on pp, the Chaplain i talkede to after his hourly prayer would be pleased
Amazing photo. Took a similar one 40 years ago when the knees were more willing! Also did the tour along the clerestory both inside and outside. Most amazing building and experience! Love your photo - fav!
@rosiekerr Appaantly it is the best of the 4 Magna Carters in the land!! Must say it is quite unerwhelming how they have displayed it!! Thanks for lovely feedback on photo @quietpurplehaze I have climbed mastgs and abseilled the Spinnaker Tower, but climbing rickety wooden steps was terrifying- knees to jelly !! Worth it though @mittens Thank you x
Fabulous shot of such a beautiful building. Two friends of mine used to work at Salisbury Cathedral, one a stone mason & one was clerk of the works for 10 years+
