This 2" pin brooch belonged to my great grandmother, who I knew as 'Bran' but she was known as 'Big Nanna' to my mum's cousin who I met for first time yesterday!
@summerfield why isn't the focus as sharp as yours??? Not a macro lens but a X10 macro filter. Thank you? @s4sayer 5 generations if count adult daughters!!! No hallmark to age it unfortunately!!
it shouldn't matter that you used a x10 filter or a real macro lens. my lens isn't. i set the camera on a tripod (as you would when shooting macro if at all possible), using live view, i find my focus. i set the timer to 2 seconds so that after i press the shutter, the camera would not have been shaking (there's always a small shake when you press the shutter even when camera is tripod-ed hahaha! i invented a word). when I'm at home, i am on manual settings and manual focus but as i my eyesight is not very good i use my eyeglasses. if you're looking through your EVF to focus, make sure you adjust your diopter. does that help you, my lady?
@summerfield i actually used tripod, should have used live view and delay timer. These new glasses' lenses do make seeing close up difficult depending on where I look through them!! Will experiment over weekend on more macroing (invented word here? ?) Thank you!
Lovely memories for you & so wonderful to meet your mum's cousin too for the first time. Also I notice you have now filed 1000 pics on 365 - congratulations for the millennium. Hope the new millennium will be fun.
also, i reckon you had to position the camera to portrait orientation. maybe the camera was moving a tiny of a fraction because the screws were not as tight as it should be? it had happened to me before.
@brennieb its a lovely garnet very scrstched! @ludwigsdiana thank you @summerfield no i took landscape and cropped it, will experiment morr tomorrow @sdutoit ;) @ajisaac gosh, so i have, but 2 albums so not 1000 days!!! @wendyfrost it does, but cousin and i have very dfifferent memories
I really like the placement and composition. I've been reading your / Vikki's comments about the focus and it does seem a bit "soft"...do you have any sort of focus assist on your camera? On my Canon rebel and now on my sony a6000 I can go magnify the focus view without zoooming in so that I can see if a specific area is truly in focus...not that I always do it...but you might want to check that out. On the Canon it was only available on live view.
