When I was a powerboat driving instructor I usually volunteered to teach the Ropes and Knots module.
My favourite knot to teach was the Alpine Butterfly Loop, popular with climbers, great for putting loops in a rope, making it useful for towing dinghies, afterwards, it is easy to break the loop and undo it.
