Walked some of Stane Street today, a road dating from about AD 40 that goes from Chichester all the way to London Bridge.(Which means I walked on it earlier this week!!)
A very damp, grey, overcast and misty walk, but it was quite awe inspiring to be walking, in the iconic dead straight line, in the steps of Romans, on a structure nearly 2000 years old.
Pocketful of joy - catching up with friends not seen for ages (+nearly six miles walked)
Nice vanishing point. It must give a sense of awe to know people have been walking this street for centuries before you. You are a part of the history of this place.
Wow! How amazing to still be able to see and walk on this route! It’s a very long distance to be called a street in my mind. Thank you so much for that fascinating link so much information presented there that one would never think of.
Thank you all, I just wish the sky hadn't been so washed out and grey. I found some more information if you're interested
