A twist, a curl and a Screw

I Googled "what is the curl of shaving called when you sharpen a pencil?" and didn't get an answer! I did however get a very interesting read about how pencil sharpeners work, if you are so inclined! And then I wished I'd done a bird's eye view, but everything packed away.

It's a very dramatic image, though when I first saw the caption I thought it was a euphemism for something.
I have heard the term "pencil peels" used, if that helps at all.

Love this capture.... I was told!!?? shavings are from whittling wood & sharpenings are from sharpening pencils.
