Stumbled across a ruined church today!
Holyrood Church was one of the original churches serving the walled town of Southampton. It was built in 1320, but destroyed during the blitz in November 1940. In 1957 the shell of the church was dedicated as a memorial to the sailors of the Merchant Navy. It is a Grade II* listed building.{Wikipedia}
Beautiful capture and interesting narrative. The craftsmanship on these buildings just amazes me. That much of it still stands after the blitz. We have bridges that are unsafe before they even reach 100 years.
That history that is part of your world is so interesting. I agree, amazing the whole building didn't get destroyed....So great you caught a bird in flight and there are birds on the wrought iron gate.
Such a surprise to find this wreck if a church in the city, with a very modern glass and steel building abutting up to it. Fluke I got a bird in both shots today, looks like I took a remote controlled one with me!!!
@happysnaps it's old and took a direct hit to destroy it @ludwigsdiana it's so solid, in parts @randystreat That's the steel and glass building next door Kathy, imoved so as not to see it too clearly
