Dust to Dust

What chance do I have to take part in a theme requiring an image of "Urban Decay" (Definition: relating to or concerned with a city or densely populated area) when the town of Lunenburg has a population of 2400? The only place I've seen in this region that's in a stage of decay is this once-grand home at the cross roads in the community of Blockhouse (population: my guess is under 100) In the pouring rain, I jumped out of the car for a couple of quick pictures before heading to the airport.

The weather was not conducive to sightseeing photos, and the couple of pictures I took of our friends show their exhaustion after a long day of travel. Hoping for better tomorrow. (I'm tired tonight...it's been a long day.)

I've let Dill down...all that nice fan mail and I've had no time to answer it. We both say thanks & hope to remedy that before too long!
This looks like it had been a gorgeous homestead. The hillside is full of nice greenery.

I bet with a bit of TLC and especially some landscaping this house would be beautiful once more.

Great shot for the theme,a bit of tTLC this would be gorgeous again!

I love that picture! I love how dilapidated it looks, yet still so beautiful in its own way.

oh, it looks like it was beautiful once. so sad it was allowed to deteriorate like that.

This photo is just wonderful for the theme! I love how it looks overgrown and aged.

Intriguing place...makes you wonder about her story. Great shot!
August 5th, 2010
I would love to hear the stories this house could tell. I applaud you for trying so hard to "find" a theme photo.

i say decay is decay....i saw modern ghost towns in nebraska and iowa......sad. (louise the reunion was better than i thought it would be, amazing how old friends can look each other in the eye and see the small child there!)

nicely framed Louise.

I love the composition, and the gray sky and wet roof really add to the image!

sending some hugs your way, and a good night's rest! :) love this house, ohhhh and I'd love to go inside it too!

I can imagine how much that place could talk after all these years of standing there. All the people who have lived there and children who have run through its halls have now fallen silent because it's been left to rot.

We don't have houses like this here in Australia last very long unless they're Heritage Listed; and even then there's so much red tape to get through they end up almost falling down completely before they're approved.

Great photo for the theme - yes, I'd love to go inside too!
August 5th, 2010
Maybe in a bit of disrepair, but it still looks like a great house!
August 5th, 2010
The roof is still in good shape - is that slate? We have that - and the "nature" trying to reclaim the house - we have that too! I like it - even if it looks too familiar! ;)

I think I want a piece of thie urban decay. This is a great photo.
August 5th, 2010
that's a great picture for the theme

The weather contributes to the forlorn appearance. Once that was a beautiful residence.... but with the people gone it just crumbles... it's the people who keep the inanimate 'alive'.

Even the decay of Lunenburg is beautiful!! A great shot!
August 5th, 2010
I agree with Gayle - this house would have many stories to tell. Great photo!

Looks like others have said this as well, but even in this state you can see the beauty of this home. I love those old corded double-hung windows. Breaks my heart to see such classic homes deteriorate like this.

What a sad house. You can almost see it crying. It is making me sad to see it! But what a great capture! Good job, Louise!
August 5th, 2010
Nice shot, I can imagine that it wouldn't take much attention for this place to be spectacular.
August 5th, 2010
You are dedicated to jump out in the rain!! This house is beautiful--it would be really nice to redo it, wouldn't it?
August 5th, 2010
What a shame to let a nice looking house go into decay.
August 5th, 2010
This place has so much character, great capture! It looks haunted.
August 5th, 2010
What a cool house.......my husband and I like to imagine what we could "do" with a fixer upper like this! :)
August 5th, 2010
Looks like it needs someone to love it again Louise sure it wont be long before that happens ..
August 5th, 2010
Very sad to see a house go to waste. Great capture for the theme! I'll bet it could be made beautiful again.
August 5th, 2010
and you've found the right place to take that shot for the theme!
August 5th, 2010
Perfect shot to take on a gray day. I hate seeing a house like this just sitting. Can you imagine the memories?
August 5th, 2010
It does look like it once was a beautiful house, now to me it looks as if it could be a haunted house, with the broken windows and all..Very nice picture!
August 5th, 2010
What a lovely house that must have been. I think it qualifies for the theme.

So sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate there! It seems that you always have fabulous weather. You know, we are going camping next week and the forecast calls for thunderstorms every day of the week. Hopefully they are wrong.

Even the "urban decay" in Lunenburg looks pretty.
August 6th, 2010
oooooh man, I want to GO THERE... Wow...Love this shot Louise.
August 7th, 2010
beautiful old building! Just like everything else in Lunenburg! :-)
August 7th, 2010
The building is so pretty, even though it is showing it's age.
