What chance do I have to take part in a theme requiring an image of "Urban Decay" (Definition: relating to or concerned with a city or densely populated area) when the town of Lunenburg has a population of 2400? The only place I've seen in this region that's in a stage of decay is this once-grand home at the cross roads in the community of Blockhouse (population: my guess is under 100) In the pouring rain, I jumped out of the car for a couple of quick pictures before heading to the airport.
The weather was not conducive to sightseeing photos, and the couple of pictures I took of our friends show their exhaustion after a long day of travel. Hoping for better tomorrow. (I'm tired tonight...it's been a long day.)
I've let Dill down...all that nice fan mail and I've had no time to answer it. We both say thanks & hope to remedy that before too long!
i say decay is decay....i saw modern ghost towns in nebraska and iowa......sad. (louise the reunion was better than i thought it would be, amazing how old friends can look each other in the eye and see the small child there!)
I can imagine how much that place could talk after all these years of standing there. All the people who have lived there and children who have run through its halls have now fallen silent because it's been left to rot.
We don't have houses like this here in Australia last very long unless they're Heritage Listed; and even then there's so much red tape to get through they end up almost falling down completely before they're approved.
The roof is still in good shape - is that slate? We have that - and the "nature" trying to reclaim the house - we have that too! I like it - even if it looks too familiar! ;)
The weather contributes to the forlorn appearance. Once that was a beautiful residence.... but with the people gone it just crumbles... it's the people who keep the inanimate 'alive'.
Looks like others have said this as well, but even in this state you can see the beauty of this home. I love those old corded double-hung windows. Breaks my heart to see such classic homes deteriorate like this.
It does look like it once was a beautiful house, now to me it looks as if it could be a haunted house, with the broken windows and all..Very nice picture!
What a lovely house that must have been. I think it qualifies for the theme.
So sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate there! It seems that you always have fabulous weather. You know, we are going camping next week and the forecast calls for thunderstorms every day of the week. Hopefully they are wrong.
